Nice resort

We stayed at the apartments that Gran Duque owns. The apartments were quaint and clean. Very nice balcony and view of the ocean and property. The pool was not open yet, but it was early May so it was probably too early to open. The area was pretty quiet and not many people were around. The desk employees for the apartments and hotel were friendly and helpful even though they were limited English speaking. The grounds were clean, well-kept and colorful with many beautiful flowers everywhere. Night time was especially colorful with all of the lights lit up.
Horrible

Juice in breakfast is undrinkable. It shouldn't even be called juice! It's the most aweful thing I've ever tasted. The beds are uncomfortable, one elevator didn't have light so we were stuck in darkness all the way. Food generally boring and tasteless.
Expensive. Boring offseason. We left two days early and they didn't even care to ask us why.
We felt blessed as we left, even though we prepaid all inclusive two more days!!!
Awful stay

We will start from the bedroom, the air conditioning does not work, the hydro bath does not work, the fridge makes noise.
We had everything included but every where is very busy you have to wait for everything, restaurant, coffee shop, swimming pool. Because not enough staff. And very difficult for english people.
No organization for the show, tickets for attractions.
Gym very poor and tiny for a big hotel and the time is open is terrible.
So this hotel should be 3 starts.
We shoul call Gordon Ramsey to fix it.
Excellent hotel with too few (overworked) staff, some issues with health & safety of guests

Christmas away from home as a surprise for my son was the idea and Marina D'Or didn't overall disappoint during our 4 day stay 24 - 27 December '16.
The Hotel Gran Duque on the other hand was a mixed experience, on the whole great but with some serious issues that management need to address sooner rather than later in the area of guest health & safety.
Checkin was to say the least a chaotic process although the extremely stressed out reception staff member did her best to get us sorted - we ended up with the wrong room key, no discount card (didn't know about this until another guest mentioned they had one on the same vacation package as ours) and some misinformation caused I feel by the fact that many prebooked services were in fact not available (when the person serving you is reading from the travel brochure about what you should be getting it is a little worrying!). We discovered that many guests on the same vacation package had differing levels of information provided to them about the services on offer however by chatting amongst ourselves we all more or less covered all the bases of what the vacation package contained.
The room was very spacious with a fully adapted bathroom for wheelchair users and those with special requirements so a real plus for us. Four single beds didn't fill up the room so there was more than enough space to move around without bumping into the very large writing desk, fridge (big), two spacious bedside chest of drawers, one large chest of drawers and chair. The wardrobe was very spacious with more than enough hangers and the safe was tucked away inside (ready to use, no rental of keys, etc). The bathroom had a shower only, fully fitted out with wall mounted seat, and rollin for wheelchair users; large mirror and also a small vanity mirror, efficient hair dryer and toilet. Towels I felt were a little on the small side, certainly not of the standard I'm used to from 4 star hotels. There was an ample supply of toiletries each day. Overall the room was clean although plenty of dust in evidence, having said that there is a new building being built across from the hotel so dust is inevitable! A huge plus was the L-shaped balcony which provided stunning views of the mountains. For the disabled all important switches and sockets were at low level and with large fittings for ease of use. The room had a large TV (poor reception) and there was a nice facility of radio music (room and bathroom). My 10 yr old son assures me that the WiFi service was terrible and kids his age know their stuff!!
Restaurant - there are facilities for those on all-inclusive and others for those not all-inclusive and each restaurant offered a wide range of buffet fare. I have to say that the food was not of a standard a four star hotel should be offering despite the variety, if I wanted tepid warm food or cold I'd stick to salad. The exception was the paella which was superb!
Staff - The hotel simply did not contract enough staff for the number of guests (over a 1000 as a guestimate). Staff tried their best to meet the needs of everyone but there is a limit as to what should be expected and it was more than obvious that the majority were overworked and stressed out, an example was the waiter who became a barman, then concierge followed by stage hand, all during one shift and in two different locations in Marina D'Or! Every member of staff we met was friendly and helpful but always in a 'rush' to get to the next guest.
ALL-INCLUSIVE; this is an excellent service and I highly recommend this to anyone staying in Marina D'Or.
Facilities - excellent swimming pool, heated; spa, fitness centre. On site shop with reasonable prices. Small stage area next to the main bar for 'mini' events. Large terrace area for drinks and food next to the main bar.
Toilets in the main reception area - in a word, disgraceful. Broken light fittings with electrical cords laid bare, water leaking from facilities, etc....uggghhh!
Health & Safety - Here I have to say the hotel is sorely lacking in the care of guests and apparently although being aware of the issues didn't care about the dangers guests faced. During one meal a young child knocked several glasses off the table and there was broken glass all over the floor, waiters and one cleaner stepped over the glass several times making no effort to clean up; I pointed out on two occasions to staff that there was glass on the floor and that there were many young children running around who could easily be harmed by the glass yet for 34 minutes nothing was done (when finally cleaned large pieces remained on the floor!), that was totally unacceptable and downright dangerous.
The second issue - I picked up a plate from a stack and immediately had to put it down having burnt the pads of three fingers, (the middle one quite badly) as the plate was red hot. On checking there seemed to be some air vents venting hot air over the plates. As children were in many cases helping themselves to plates (my 10 yr old included) to get their own food it was beyond belief that plates were on display that caused physical injury!
I addressed this issue with the serving staff, 'yeah we know' was the response and no action. I spoke with the restaurant manager 'I tell the staff not to put hot plates from the washer out until they're cool'. I asked for the first aid kit so I could apply burn cream, restaurant manager 'we don't have one you have to go to reception'. In the reception 'we don't have a first aid kit, you have to go and find a pharmacy' (this at a time at night when all shops were closed and it was Christmas Day). Finally the staff refused to provide the legally required incident report documentation.
Overall a great hotel that just needs to realise their industry is abour providing guest experiences and for that they need to revise the ratio of staff to guest.
Amazing place for true relaxation!

Two weeks ago, we returned from a seven-day holiday in Marina Dor Grand Duque.
The hotel is very good. Rooms are spacious enough and cleaned every day.
Towels and accessories in the bathroom are changed as needed or every day (if you're used so). We were in block B, where each room has a balcony.
The bed was extremely comfortable and the sheets are very soft.
We got everything described in our package and it served with a smile. I strongly recommended Marina d`Or 5* Hotel with Europe's largest scientific seawater spa -it's awesome!
I have to express my admirations to the chefs and their whole team - a huge variety of really delicious food every day! Salads, appetizers, meals and desserts for every taste (even for the most exigent).
Despite the huge invasion of Spanish tourists constantly digging in the food screaming and pushing, staff at the restaurant were great and managed to make beautiful food, plentiful and delicious!
Highly recommend for families with children - the children will be really happy, especially with the parade and fireworks in the evening.
