We arrived having reserved via a third party (because all the rooms were taken for the dates we wanted but space was available on another platform) I was rather afraid that it wouldn't be all we had hoped but : what a surprise! It was not only better, but fantastically better. One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The room was gigantic and very high tech. The bed enormous and very comfortable. The bathroom a dream. The hotel is perfectly situation on the main square - we had thought we'd make it just a place to sleep in while driving around but, instead, left the car in the parking and spent two days exploring the town by foot and taking the cable car to walk in the mountains above. It's a wonderful town and we could easily have spent much longer (the Museoin is, especially, not to be missed) And, did I mention they have wonderful breakfasts?

We wanted to go to see Bolzano in the summer season, and visit the museum there dedicated to Ötzi. The hotel is in a perfect location in town, with a parking garage right underneath it, making it easy to get in with luggage etc (parking is not free to hotel guests). The staff were delightful, ready to help and offered tons of information. The hotel has a sister hotel very close by, with a great outdoor restaurant and bar, and (I think) a pool that guests can use. The breakfast is plentiful and quiet, with a lovely outdoor terrace. We were a bit perplexed about the design of the hotel.... our room had a headboard that was too short for the twin mattress' butted up against it, and the bathroom door couldn't be opened in all the way because the toilet prevented it from doing so. The artwork seemed like an after thought (and was hung unevenly) and the hallway carpet in need of replacement from being so worn. The rooms were clean, and quiet - but since this is touted as a 'design hotel' we found it a bit odd the disparity between the few suites, with a stunning old sweeping staircase, and the non suite rooms, with utilitarian hallways and a cold modern glass elevator....The roof top bar is also quite nice, but to access it you need to go outside and walk down the mall public hallway, then climb stairs.

Right on the main square and dominated by the beauty of the Dom’s green and white tiled roof, Hotel Greif is outstanding. I had spacious, quiet room 213 with a side view of hills and plenty of space to unwind. Furniture is modern, including a desk and lounge chair, and excellent lighting. There is even tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom has a bath and good rainforest shower, basin with a long marble bench, bidet and heated towel rack. There are soap, products, tissues. Beds and pillows make for an excellent night’s sleep. As the receptionist said, take your time with breakfast because it’s very good. It certainly was. They offered a range of cereals, nuts, fruits, etc, beautiful choice of yoghurts, bread, cakes and juices. Eggs can be ordered. The hotel barman was great, and the bar good with some quirky touches. While I was there, they were projecting an old film (Julia and Julia)onto the wall with the sound turned down. I would certainly stay again to take in the delights of this lively mountain town, with its array of shops and cultural activities. The hotel is such a welcome place to return to after a busy day

Good Location, Clean, Comfortable with Great Service

The Location on the main square provides easy access to sites. The room was quiet, clean and functional. It wasn't a wow but that is fine. Breakfast was good. Parking was handled by the staff and parking was convenient, expensive but typical.

Weekend travelers need to be aware that car access to the front of the hotel may be prohibited by the police. The underground garage can be reached via elevator but your Nav system may not be a big help.

Delightful, Modern Hotel in Bolzano

Hotel Grief is a lovely, modern hotel in a perfect location on Piazza Walther in Bolzano. It is walking distance to all the main sights. Our room which included a large bathroom was very spacious, stylish & clean. The breakfast was exceptional (in fact the best we had on our 4 week trip), staffed by delightful & efficient waitresses. A large variety of foods were provided, and presented beautifully. An obvious effort was made to maintain a high level of hygiene where self service was involved.
We would like to thank the female manager for her excellent itinerary advice and suggestions. She was most helpful, and that "local knowledge " makes a huge difference to the success of a holiday.
A tip for those arriving by car...on the hotel website homepage there are detailed instructions in the bottom left hand corner under "how to get" . One needs to put "Viale Stazione" into the GPS. Unfortunately we didn't know this, and only found the carapark by accident, so arrived a bit frazzled.
I would highly recommend Hotel Greif if staying in Bolzano.
