More monastery guest house than hotel but fine

This hotel has to be judged simply for what it is and it is, in some ways, more like a monastery guest house than a hotel. That said it is very clean with very big room, decent shower, towels, soap etc. Yes a/c tends to be noisy but it always is in smaller, cheaper hotel. This was booked for me by Trailfinders.
I ate there twice and it really was very decent, simple, Indian food, chapatti and dal, some rice and chicken. Perfectly adequate and in keeping with what I was doing there. Staff were pleasant. Good wifi connection in the lobby where I worked from. It was fine for the two days I spend there. 6/10
Too expensive, austere but glad it was there

This hotel is not bad considering the business and dirtiness of the town. It is well located near the main temple.
It is however very austere. There are no pictures on the walls which themselves are badly painted and look very shabby. The plastic flimsy browny toilet seat in the bathroom is off putting added to the smell of naphthalene in the bathroom. The shower was okay with hot water. This hotel is very expensive for what you get but the restaurant seemed to be the best we could trust in Bodhgaya.
Good Hotel in the Place of Lord Boddha's Place of Enlightment

Good hotel in a good calm and quiet location. Very good rooms with good toilets and AC. Every room has its own electric kettle and the cups and the tea bags etc so you can make your own tea at any time. Restaurant is a good one and either Buffet or room service or you can request the staff to serve. The food served are either Indian or English style. Wide variety of choice. I liked the 4 nights which I stayed there. The hotel Manager is very helpful. If you wanted to go to the Temple it is just 5 minutes walk. If you wanted to hire an electric 3-wheeler it is in front of the hotel and cost you only Rs20.00. Just agree the price before you get in. If more than two people are sharing then each person has to pay only Rs10.00. When you return from the temple also you have to agree the same way. These three-wheel drivers are normally cunning and cheating to new tourists. Though, they know the hotels clearly, they overpass the destination and wonder around the area pretending not knowing the place to overcharge the fare.
I have seen the kitchen of the hotel and they seems to be clean and good.
We went there as a group and it was a good trip as the hotel facilities are good. You have Wi-Fi also there.
Very simple and basic

Air conditioner was very noisy so using ceiling fan was the only option during the night. Beds are quite hard. But if one accepts that this is a place for pilgrims all becomes relatively acceptable especially if it is just for one night.
Another hard Indian bed

We stayed four nights at this hotel which obviously is part of the Lotus Nikko company which caters for groups of pilgrims. It has a number of advantages:
• It is in an excellent location reasonably close to the Stupa, but down a quiet lane with the Archaeological Museum on the corner, so it is very quiet, apart from call to prayer from the nearby mosque.
• Our room was minimalist, spacious and clean with a spacious convenient bathroom with a good hot shower.
• The service was cheerful and friendly and there was good security around the extensive garden setting.
The food in the restaurant was good but it was the same uninspired, expensive menu that all the Lotus Nikko hotels share. Once when there were no other groups present we were served breakfast at the table and the food was very good. On the other days there were large groups and the breakfast buffet was a poor selection.
The small annoyance was the toilet lid which through bad design would not stay up. The big annoyance was the bed. I was delighted when I found a foam mattress on the bed but it turned out to be the hardest foam that I have ever experienced. I have to say though that my friends did not appear to have the same problem so perhaps we were just unlucky to get the very, very dense foam.
The hotel was expensive but then even some very basic hotels can be expensive in the pilgrim season and most especially when HH is teaching.
