Better than expected and great value for money

The hotel is a bit dated and clearly the rooms need updating. The first room we checked into had very old carpeting, a bathroom door that stuck (locking our daughter in for a few panicy minutes). However, after one night, we spoke to the front desk and they moved us to a different room. Exact same layout but this one had been updated with new wood floors and a fresh coat of paint. One other point that we found important, at the height of the summer months, it is VERY hot and nearly all of the rooms have direct sun on them throughout the day (nice if you like watching sunsets). However, after a day at the pool, if you want to relax on the balcony, you will find it nearly unbearably hot. When we moved rooms (to the side of the U-shaped layout), it was delightful. Food was slightly above average, staff were super nice. Pool was lovely and the pool restaurant served excellent lunches. Other than the pool, there is not much for children to do (small play area in the hot sun and a quasi kids club for the mornings)
Overall, considering we were there at the peak of summer holidays, we were very pleasantly surprised at how nice the accomodations were for the price we paid. We had stayed at Asia Gardens a year earlier for £285 per night half board. They quoted us £415 per night with breakfast only. Way too expensive. Hotel Alicante Golf was half the price.
Good choice for golf break

Short walk to club for first tee and 18 th green just at the hotel. Rooms were clean and almost in good shape. Service at lobby bar was poor. Maybe extra hands would help? Location near beach and city.
Great place for a party

My family and I went to a party held at this hotel. We stayed two nights in very comfortable clean and attractive rooms. Good quality furniture and equipment and we had a wonderful view of the lake and the gardens from our huge balcony.
The party was held in a bar "pavilion" near the swimming pool. The food was great and the staff were excellent and charming.
We were there for the party so didn't use many of the facilities but would have loved to have stayed longer and taken advantage of the golf, spa etc.
Depends on what you are coming for

This is very much a 3 star + hotel - not sure where it gets the 4 stars from but then you would wonder who allocates 4 stars to most hotels in the first place.
The hotel is approx 20 mins by taxi from the airport and about 10 mins taxi ride into the centre of Alicante. Taxis are frequent and the receptionist was more than helpful in organising it for us
Its approx 10-15 min walk to the beach and its very close to the local tram service which goes direct into the city
Our room was a double - it was clean but fairly average. We had a balcony view of the main road - awful as the noise from the street at night was long particularly from traffic. There are many rooms with balconies that are away from this side so a good tip is to make sure you don't end up facing the roads if you want a good night sleep
Breakfast was a buffet of pretty average food. Plenty available but all fairly average and certainly not 4 or 5 star
There is gym that is the size of a bathroom and an indoor pool the size of the bath in your bathroom......
There is a very nice outdoor pool which when not crowded is a very pleasant area to enjoy the sun.
We didn't eat in the main restaurant but why would you when you have alicante city 10 mins down the road. The only food we ate was from the bar and it was ok. Typical food you would expect from any bar in Spain. The views onto the golf course are really nice
For golfers. The course is right beside the Hotel. if you are staying here then get them to book the golf for you as they will give you a discount and your buggy will be waiting for you in the basement car park. The course built by Seve Ballesteros is excellent design. Highly recommend buggies unless you want to walk 20 Miles as the course is split up around 4 apartment complexes so there is a long way from tee to tee walk wise.
So overall its pretty average..... If you want golf and happy to transit in and out of Alicante its great.... if its a 4 star package holiday i don't think so !
Don't listen to the negative comments

We stayed in the Alicante golf on recommendation from friends who regularly stay here.
I can't believe some of the comments written about this hotel, it's a great hotel. The rooms are large with big and very comfortable beds, the rooms are clean, the pools are beautiful and the staff are friendly and helpful.
The breakfast was adequate with plenty of choice.
Don't be put off by the reviews, we will definitely go back.
