I was quite comfortable

So, the Kentrikon is not fancy. If you are looking for fancy, this might not be for you. But, it is clean and comfortable with good wifi and centrally located a half block from the waterfront and the old bridge.
I suggest asking for a room in the back, as the street out front is quite busy with noisy traffic. I had a room facing the rear, which was quiet.
Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is rather basic, but I did not go away hungry.
The walk in price for a single is 30€ + 3€ for breakfast.
The rooms are equipped with an enormous flat screen TV, which I did not turn on.
This is surely your best option in Chalcis if you are on a budget.
Good hotel in a calm city

I have this curse of noisy hotels. This night-long visit in hotel Kentrikon wasn't an exception. Our room was in the first floor, almost on the street-level. The street was busy and noisy, also in the night time though it was Thursday. I have also good things to say, of course. Location was super, near train station (train to Athens every two hours) and beach boulevard. Our room was comfy, two beds, small bathroom. Spacious. Hotel staff was helpful and very friendly. We got good directions to KTEL bus station.

two stars but feels like in a 3 stars or higher , great service with friendly staff and best value for money, its the place to have a peace of mind and relax although you are in the middle of the city, you have all what you need as basic traveller, free wifi, free parking although its limited like everywehre else in greece due to road space, rooms are equipped with all toiletries and amenities. the refrigerator is an added value if you want keep your beer chil. the size of the room is fair enough. i recommend this hotel to all type of travelers and hope that they keep up the good work as i experienced

The Hotel Kentrikon in Halkida or Chalkida or Xalkida or Khalkis (take your pick) proudly advertises (in their rooms at least) it was built in 1928. I chose this as it offered free wifi, breakfast and parking and it was roughly midway between Tripoli and Thessaloniki. I wish I had known better.
Lets start with the parking. Yes they have a tiny lot with space for 4 cars. You need to make a tight turn the wrong way on a short one-way street then a tighter turn into their parking lot and getting the car turned around is a parking lesson in 3-point turns. Also I think 2 cars were staff. Don't even think about this unless you have a really small car.
There is no elevator and the stairs are steep. The rooms are clean and bigger than some places at this price (we paid 52 euros for a double). But the wallpaper is peeling in the bathroom, there are no spare power points and only one set of towels for 2 people. We carry an extension board so we unplugged a bedside lamp and could use our computer and chargers. The wifi does work.
Similarly the breakfast is OK, a no-frills continental. The staff are friendly and the location is central although frankly there isn't much to see in this town. As it was off season they had no food or drinks despite what it said in the room but there are plenty of nearby restaurants. Our room was above the main street and there was a lot of noise at night even in the early hours. I rate this hotel poor because for about the same money in Greece outside Athens you can do so much better so try to.
Practical Hotel.

We stay a couple off nights in Evia and it was a practical hotel to stay on. They have a free parking and the hotel is just next to the cornish of restaurant. The parking itself was very small but functional.
The people were very friendly and try their best. The rooms were small and a bit noisy but were fine specially according to the price so we cant complain. Its simple and at basically no cost. Breakfast its symbolic but according to the price.
If you are looking a place to avoid high cost this is your place. Very nice after all.
