Lost the WOW factor

We had heard about the skybar and checked it out during the day to see if we needed to book, which was not required. We were not staying at the Hotel. At the same time we noticed the fixed price dinner in tbe main restaurant and thought for 35 Euro for choices of starter main meal and desert seemed a great price so i booked a table. How wrong we were.... when we arrived the restaurant was exploding with what I guess was a large tour group, no one umder 60.and I am amost 50. There were too many people for the table staff to handle and the food was very average. This was our 5th week driving around Italy so I think i have a fair idea of what to expect... dinner over and asking for the bill, which to so long to get. Along with a plaque of mosquitoes that was feasting on everyone my patience was wearing thin. After paying the bill and heading upto the Skybar the disappointed continued. Again the plaque of mosquitoes were there as well. After asking staff for bug spray or something,, they had nothing. We had a drink and left. Management... you need to get ontop of looking after you quests. Your staff are doing their best but you are letting them down. Hard to recommend you hotel which looked so nice...
Beautiful Location to explore Lake Maggiore

This modern hotel is beautifully situated on Lake Maggiore. We asked for a quiet room and we stayed in the back but a balcony provided us with views to the lake.
What I loved most:
1) We were exhausted after our long international flight and we were accommodated in our request to enter our room prior to the standard check in time. I was deliriously happy and fell asleep immediately in the comfortable bed.
2) I loved breakfast in the dining room when the glass was removed and we experienced an indoor/outdoor breakfast including perfect weather. The views to the lake and the mountains beyond were breath taking.
3) We loved the Sky Bar and watching the sun go down. It appears to be the "It Place" as the bar filled with people to watch the sunset.
4) The little balcony in our room was a lovely place to sit and enjoy the air.
5) The modern bathroom.
What I did not love:
1) The room door did not keep out the hall noise. Happily we had asked for a quiet room and were at the end of the hall and there was not much traffic. But, we could occasionally hear people. The doors were beautiful, but not sound proof.
2) We had dinner the first night at the hotel, and the food was bland. I did not have a problem with the generous breakfast buffet, but the dinner was not much to write home about.
Net/net: I would absolutely stay here again, and hope I can return.
A wonderful experience

We were warmly greeted and allocated a beautiful modern room on the 6th floor overlooking the lake and islands. This is one of the most pleasant rooms we've stayed in. The fittings and bathroom were superb particularly the shower, as was the large balcony with small sofa and table and chairs.
The rooftop bar was delightful with great service and delicious cocktails.
My only gripe is that whilst breakfast is OK, it feels extremely congested with lots of tightly packed tables, meaning you were always having to squeeze in and out of people and tables, and queue for the toaster for example, as there was only room for one person.
All in all however, a lovely hotel in a great location. We would definitely return.

Too expensive and jest okay very noisy staff just okay did their job not an awful lot of friends in this but maybe I asked too much The views and the location is spot-on and very near to the very nice town of strays with lots of restaurants and bars and shops but to after a while becomes very expensive and prefer to stay before the buffet average for breakfast will go back to the Dino in Baveno next Door a little smaller but you can always visit straighter by boat car taxi even the bus overall I love the lakes of northern Italy
Lovely hotel, beautiful location.

We have just returned from a 14 day holiday staying at La Palma. The hotel has a great deal to offer but in one way does not live up to 4* expectations.
First the great things. Our lake view room on the third floor was brilliant, lots of room, great bed, lovely bathroom (obviously recently modernised), two comfy armchairs and a motorised shutter which gave great blackout. Also had tons of power points which was great considering the number of chargers we keep going.
As others have mentioned the Sky Bar was brilliant, so much so that at the weekend it is packed with the local cool people and some who have come down from Milan for the setting.
We found the staff unfailingly polite and always ready to return a smile. The bar staff, where we had our after-dinner coffee remembered preferences, names and room numbers!
The one aspect of the experience which was not 4* was the dining room. We had wanted only B&B but our travel company could only offer a halfboard deal. This meant that we ate in every night and by the end of the time we were fairly tired of the shortcommings. There could, at times be two quite big tour groups eating at tables of 10. The noise could be extremely off-putting. The other issue was the standard of service from waiters which could be very varied. Some were very graceful and seemed to be beter trained in the area of service. There is an odd system for ordering meals where the Head Waiter/Maitre d' is the only person to take the order and this is read and acted upon by other waiters. If you hit a busy time (or a guest who wanted a great discussion whilst ordering) you could wait some time before you had your order taken.
Overall the dining room was the only thing which was not really wonderful and if you managed to get a table well away from the tour groups it would be a lot less trying.
So, thanks La Palma for a great holiday in a lovely hotel on a superb site.
