Awful breakfast

The evening before our arrival we had a call from a Ricardo at the hotel to say the deluxe lake view room we booked 8 months previously, was now no longer available, and we could have a garden view. Disappointed was an understatement.
The point of booking a hotel on Lake Bolsena was to have a view of the lake, not of the garden and main road.
On arrival Ricardo was most apologetic, but it still didn't get me my lake view.
We were directed to the sister hotel across a busy road, this hotel had no facilities whatsoever, only rooms and a receptionist.
We returned to the main hotel and used the free sun loungers on its private beach.
The food offered at dinner was plentiful, if a little salty for our taste.
And I know this has nothing to do with the hotel, but just as our first course arrived, a couple sat down behind us with a toddler, and proceeded to set up a laptop for the child to view a film, with sound, whilst they ate their meal, not speaking to the child during their meal! When did this become acceptable behaviour in a restaurant?!!
Ricardo checked up on us regularly, which was a nice gesture.
The breakfast buffet was shocking. The bread was rock hard, the milk for the cereals was lukewarm and the fresh fruit salad was so old it was mushy and completely inedible.
We would not recommend this hotel or return.

My husband and I had a fantastic evening having dinner by the lake here. We were staying at their sister property the Hotel Royal on a half-board basis with dinner at the Hotel Restaurant Lido. Everything was wonderful - the setting, view, service, view, and food! We had a feast of pasta, seafood, grilled pork, dessert, and wine. Can't wait to go back again!

Great location and pretty good room. Perfect place for a swim with the clearest lake water I have seen. Restaurant was also good. It was clean, well kept, and food was delicious. Would recommend for anyone.

The hotel is located on the shore of Lake Bolsena, and has a small private beach with sunloungers. There is also a beautiful terrace overlooking the lake. The decor is slightly over-the-top, verging on the kitsch - but this is part of the charm. Bedrooms are pleasant but not particularly large - but this is often the norm in Italy. Breakfast, contrary to the opinion of another recent reviewer, offered an excellent selection of cheeses, meat, cereals, cakes, etc - but anyone expecting a greasy full English would inevitably be disappointed. We found the staff to be charming and helpful. Can't comment about the restaurant as the set menu didn't appeal.
From Average to Incompetent!

I was initially going to give this hotel an average as the setting deserves at least some points - the hotel is a little tired, the breakfast is hardly worth going downstairs for - no real choice and the only hot food is a boil your own egg and make toast with white bread - no other choice of bread and both take 5-10 mins to make! The shower is so small that you would be hard pushed to have a good scrub if your over 18 stone.
We booked a taxi through the hotel and Mario provided the return service: the restaurant was 1 mile each way and we were charged 20Euros!
Then came the crunch! I reached the airport only to realise I didn't have my passport - I had the cover but not the document! I contacted the hotel who initially said they didn't have it then they found it in a draw! They hadn't given it back to me and I'd totally forgotten they had it!!!! They managed to bill me for all the extras but not provide my documentation.
Whilst the hotel receptionist confirmed it was their fault they were unable to get someone to drive to the airport with my passport so I could catch my flight! We ended up driving the 4hr round trip, missing our plane and having to book on the next available flight without any compensation from the owners! A cost of £400 for me - no duty of care at all!!!! If I had caused such distress to one of my clients I would have driven to the airport with the passport to ensure they caught the plane - incompetent and very poor customer service!
