For starters the reception and bar area are excellent. The bar is open til quite late and is spacious with high ceilings and it’s a nice common area and staff are very friendly.
I didn’t like a couple of things and I felt it was a bit of a cash grab. There was no water in the room. Would expect a couple of bottles of water in any hotel room that don’t have to be taken from the exorbitantly priced mini bar. But not in this case.
Also I booked on tablet hotels and my friend who stayed on same night and booked on same night booked on booking.com and their room was $65 cheaper. I assumed this is because I had booked a room with breakfast, but no. My breakfast which cost $28 per person for continental. Which means $28 for cereal, toast and some sorry looking fruit. It also didn’t include coffee which was additional.
Additionally, this hotel which is 20 years old and the rooms show it- is in need of room renovations. The carpet looks it’s age, and for a view of a brick wall- I actually expected a bit more.

Nice hotel with a very good situation in the top of the CBD, close to the parliament and tram stations... We have been very well received. The room was very comfortable, well equipped but the view was awful...

As always - excellent service, good food, friendly staff, clean rooms, great atmosphere - what more could you ask for? This has been my hotel of choice for some time now when traveling to Melbourne for business.

Had a week here for work and my stay could not be faulted.
All the staff were always so lovely and happy to help in any way - front desk, food and beverage and the lovely cleaning lady.
Location was great, a few resturants and pubs just a quick 5min walk. The Duke pub was awesome with the option of fine dining upstairs at the 'duchess'. Chicken parmi was one of the best ive had.
Walking to Bourke street or Melbourne Central etc for shopping takes about 10mins and Crown Casino took about 20mins otherwise a tram line is right across from the hotel.
Breakfast was fresh and tasty with a great variety (freshly squeezed orange juice was delicious)
Bed was really comfortable and bathroom was spacious with all the little extras included (really nice lotions, shampoo etc)
Would definitely recommend this to someone looking for a smaller more personal hotel

This is a very elegant hotel that instantly feels like home. The lobby gives an enticing glimpse into what is install but the room is the real champion. Beautifully furnished, large and elegant and feels like your bedroom. Excellent bed and furnishings, everything thought of and excellent working facilities. Cannot fault this excellent place and there is no need to try.
