Great location in Nice

Great location - just a few minutes’ walk from Massena Square and the gardens and the huge shopping area. Maybe a 10 minute walk to the stunning Nice sea front and long promenade and the old town.
Entrance is discrete and interior design is very modern. Reception staff friendly and helpful.
Breakfast - on the ground floor - was busy but excellent selection of hot and cold food - entirely self-service.
Didn’t try the hotel bar as there are simply too many bars and restaurants in the immediate area.
The room was disappointing - it had all that you’d expect but was really small. Separate small bath/sink from the toilet. Safe was key operated. Room key needed for power with no delay time when you needed access to safe - so plunged into darkness. The heating/air conditioning unit didn’t appear to work.
Also, unfortunately in the adjoining room it seems there were three young women enjoying a hen party. Their taste in music was interesting but their singing skills left a lot to be desired. Very poor sound insulation. Two nights of noise - not very relaxing.
Tall window with a gate was pretty but the view was negligible. Although they had put some plants at the base of the area.

We stayed here for a two day stay in Nice. Rooms was a modern, clean room in the midst of Nice. It was just perfect! I love the rugs. Check out this beautiful rug that was throughout the hotel.
Staff very pleasant and accommodating to all of our questions and issues.
A real disappointment // smelly, noisy & small

1. I felt like staying in a cheap station area hostel rather in a 4 star hotel.
2. Other guests were freely smoking in their rooms and the incredibly strong smell could be felt everywhere, including the corridor and our room. I complaint about that to the reception people, but apparently they are not allowed to disturb other guests, so they can do whatever they want in their rooms.
3. The hotel was old and the room we got was small and weird (toilet was separated from the bathroom).
4. The breakfast room was very small. It was difficult to move around or to find a free table. Moreover, the cleaner was doing her vacuuming around the breakfast area and the lobby (at 8AM!), so it was really unpleasant and noisy.
5. I booked this hotel and paid a premium to receive 4 star service, unfortunately this hotel was worth nothing more than 2 stars.
Great Location, Older but Renovated

The Hotel Messena is in the middle of town, minutes by foot from almost anywere -- or so it seemed to a first-time Nice visitor. We walked through town to the seafront, enjoying the parks and plazas greatly and then . . . there was the Promenade des Anglais. Beautiful.
The hotel is older but kept nice. Our room looked out on rooftops to the rear, which is hardly the most desired view. But it nevertheless as very French and interesting, as if the polished veneer had been scratched, allowing us a glance beneath the shiny surface of Nice.
Our group had breakfast each morning of our two-night stay, and the food was plentiful and well-presented. Did not try dinner there, but instead opted for places nearby for simple fare. There are lots of boulangeries, cafes and stores convenient to the neighborhood, which felt very safe.
The only issue we had was with condensation from our A/C, which dripped onto the carpet overnight.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, even with a group of almost 50. Not sure what the rate was, as it was prearranged; but I could see staying there next time in Nice.

Hotel is old but has been renovated and brand new inside. Nice hotel to stay in. Rooms are large. Hotel is very convenient and walking distance to a lot of places. Staff are helpful. Breakfast is ok. Nothing great. Good hotel to stay in Nice
