What People are saying

Constantly good hotel

Amoq on 07/10/2017 14:46

We stay here on our way to the south coast for one or two nights each way. It is a consistently good hotel, smart and clean with pleasant staff. We had an accessible room this time and enjoyed the private enclosed garden and the spacious room with walk in shower. Breakfast was the standard affair but nicely presented and reasonable variety.

A very different Mercure

Chris_R_Bath on 02/09/2017 17:21

Mercure is a large, mid-range French hotel chain but the Sainte Victoire Mercure is very different to any other Mercure hotel we have stayed in.

The hotel is situated on a D road that runs parallel to the A8 near Aix-en-Provence. There is a large vineyard/chateau across the road but not a lot else around. The huge ridge of Monte Sainte Victoire looms in the background and Aix is about 15 minutes by car.

The hotel is built around an old building (a coaching inn or relais?) with some modern buildings attached. It has a large garden area and a very nice, big swimming pool area. The outside dining area is delightful and breakfast can be taken in a very nice (but noisy) old courtyard. We visited in August, at the height of the holiday period, and the hotel was full with quite a few children and dogs.

Our room was in one of the modern buildings and was typical for a hotel of this class, but it did have a small outdoor area that we utilised in the evenings when it was no longer in direct sunlight. Although there is a noisy road outside, our room (and possibly all the others) faced inwards and was very quiet. In fact the only place that the road noise was obtrusive was in the breakfast courtyard.

Food was quite good, the service was good (although a bit stretched in the peak holiday season) and the staff were extremely friendly. The ambience was outstanding and we were never tempted to eat out. Dinner was an extremely nice experience because of the ambience and the staff.

We stayed for three nights for an extended wedding with plenty of gaps in between. Originally we had intended to use the spare periods to visit Aix and other areas around, but it was so nice to just chill out in the hotel that that was all we did.

A wonderful and very unexpected place to stay. Very highly recommended!

Lovely setting, appalling restaurant staff

Jonathan1234567890 on 01/09/2017 12:30

I had the misfortune to stay here over several nights on business. The setting is lovely (in the middle of nowhere but beautiful surroundings) and the main buidling itself is old and very quaint. Breakfast was nice and the morning staff were friendly and pleasant.

Unfortunately the good points end there. I have never been spoken to so rudely or treated so badly in a restaurant for as long as I can remember. "Service with a snarl" should probably be the tagline here - the very fact that we wished to dine in the restaurant seemed to be treated as an affront; generally we sat in the restaurant and were ignored for around half an hour before even a drinks order was taken. Add to this the times when we got the wrong food, the wrong drinks and watched our own orders being taken to a different table - it would have been funny if it wasn't so tragic. This is the experience of several times dining in the hotel - due to the location it was difficult to get out to other places to eat. Stay only if you can and are prepared to travel elsewhere to get food.

The falling stars

Avoid at any cost staying in this hotel of longer that à night
The service is poor, like ni laundry service and the room as cold and innpersonnal that feasible (of course,no mini bar and you have to do with a single small bottle of water
The pool could be nice but you get no service here as well
Finally, the food is at best average....

Ideal Place to Explore Provence

Gary D on 27/03/2017 09:02

My wife and I have just returned from a long weekend staying at this hotel.
The hotel is on the D7N main road and easy to find. It is clearly out of season in Provence and we were probably the only guests at the hotel.

We were welcomed with a smile and a welcome drink voucher for a glass of wine or beer. It was nice to sit outside and have wine and cheese. The weather was kind too, about 19c and sunny.

The hotel is clean and the room was large with a large wet-room rain shower, his and hers basins and a separate toilet. There is large LCD television on the wall and probably a over zealous air conditioner, nevertheless this is a bit nit picking......the WiFi was fast!
The breakfast was nice although maybe a bit limited, however i guess that was due to the lack of guests. the hotel has a nice pool area with loungers and pool towels available from reception.

The only down side was that after a full day out exploring Lake of Sainte-Croix, which is a must......we arrived back at the hotel and thought we would use the restaurant. However the restaurant was closed, and therefore we had to get back in the car drive to local restaurant recommended by the hotel. This could have possibly been our fault as we didn't ask in the morning whether the restaurant would be open in the evening.....then again who would as it would be expected the hotel restaurant would be open.

The hotel is 5mins walk from a local winery, and the local wine is very good.
One thing....a car is a must. The hotel is about 10mins from Aix-en-Provence and about 30mins from Marseille airport, using the Autoroute (with tolls).

Would we use this hotel again.....yes.
Would we recommend it.....yes.
