Good Hotel in Great Location

GlendaKHouston_Texas on 23/05/2017 19:19

I am a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and I love to stay at historic hotels. This hotel is a re-purposed old building decorated in art deco style. They did a great job in re-purposing this building. There is a bar and restaurant located in the hotel. The hotel is located in downtown and is surrounded by excellent restaurants. The staff is very friendly and helpful and our room was comfortable. If we needed something, the staff took care of it. Some reviewers complained about the pillows, but we had 2 soft and 2 medium pillows. The bathroom was nice, though the garden tub/shower was almost too tall for this short old lady to get into. Having said this, I will inform future guest to a few negatives. First, is the smell when you walk into the hotel door where the valet is located. We noticed immediately and my husband thought it smelled like someone was smoking, but this is a smoke free hotel. The smell comes from the several dumpsters located in the alley just beside the door. I know about these dumpsters because my room (311) was located just above them. Each morning we were awakened around 5 am with the trash trucks emptying the dumpsters. My room was also very dark. The management should install more lamps with brighter bulbs. While the room had plenty of space for me to spread out my make-up, it was a challenge to put it on each day because the lighting was so poor.
I would recommend this hotel, but get a room higher up.

LET DOWN

Joseph B on 17/05/2017 00:21

I am from a small town way up north Wisconsin, I was looking for a super classy, fun, fancy hotel for a Mothers Day stay. I booked a 2 bedroom suite, it looked amazing from the online pictures!

When we got to the Hotel the Valet was wonderful, and the front desk was good, I used to work hospitality, and was just a little let down, they were nice, however for 441.00 i was expecting more. Lobby was beautiful!
Room,

EWWWWWW, furniture was very worn, and torn in some places, one chair broken and did not trust to sit on it. The walls were kinda dirty, and the window had a broken screen. The room was pretty shabby, I loved the mini bar set up! classy in a way, and the bathroom was beautiful! the bathroom actually saved the room for us staying...

pillows were rather nice, and the beds were good. but the overall of the room ---- i was taken for a ride on the room price.. i did add parking and a 25 dollar gift certificate to the room.. package deal was 441.00 I was ripped off..

Great Hotel / Terrible Experience

Allyson S on 10/04/2017 00:03

I must say that this hotel is everything it is cracked up to be. It is fancy, clean, and relaxing. We paid over $200 a night but you "get what you pay for". Our room was amazingly beautiful and romantic! We stayed in the King Spa. It had a huge whirl pool tub that fit both of us and felt like a hot tub. It also had a fireplace that produced just the perfect amount of heat. There was not much of a view but we were not in the room during the day anyways so it did not really matter. The evening concierge was a sweet heart and very helpful. He was friendly and made you immediately feel welcome. Our first night was perfect! We even ate dinner at the attached restaurant and the bartender was also amazing! Perfect romantic and relaxing evening in a city we have never been in.

However, the second night was another experience in and of itself. The morning concierge helped us to locate the local market for breakfast which was helpful. I think she assumed we were driving because she gave us round about directions because of road closures but after finding it we were able to walk directly down the street the hotel actually was located on but it was not a big deal because we got to see more of the city that way. When we got back we were able to spend time in their hot tub and sauna. They are small but very nice. You get a good view of the surrounding buildings and it makes you feel as though you are outside. The sauna is electric but still produces good heat. They do not provide prices in the room for the minibar so I have no idea how expensive any product was. I did call down to see about the slipper price though. Our room only provided one pair of slippers but my husband left his sandals in the car so I called about their price. I was informed they were $8 if you take them home but free to use if you leave them. So we used them to go to the hot tub and then left them. We were not able to try out the free taxi because we were headed to the game and they do not go that far, but it looks fun.

...Everything was great up until we got back from the baseball game. That was when our experience changed for the worse. They have cameras throughout the building and on every floor so I am surprised they did not deal with this situation, and if they did why they didn't sooner. Yes the game lasted 2 extra innings, yes the Brewers won with a wild pitch walk off, yes it was a Friday night game, and yes it was against the Cubs. However, this is not an excuse for college students (I am assuming) to act like heathens! We are in our late 20s with college degrees so we understand how to have fun, but we also know how to be respectful of others and especially how to be respectful at a hotel at 2-5 in the morning! We stayed on the 6th floor and the room next to us was immediately packed with screaming, and I mean SCREAMING girls at 2:15 am. I immediately jumped out of bed at this because it freaked me out. Once we figured out it was coming from the room that our headboard was connected to we tried drowning the sound out by the TV and the fan but it did not help. Constantly they were slamming doors and going in and out of the spa, which was supposed to be off limits between midnight and 5am. People kept coming and going out of the room and the elevator. There was one particular girl that would make your ears hurt because she was so shrill and completely and utterly drunk. This is not the type of hotel you behave in this manner. If I wanted to deal with this behavior we would have stayed at the Iron Horse or the Brewhouse Inn, but we chose this specifically because we knew it was the night of a late baseball game. The people next to us were loud from 2 in the morning till 5 in the morning. We had to be up at 630 in the morning because we had a 5 hour drive ahead of us. Before you begin making snide comments regarding why I did not report this it was for one pure reason, I did not want to start trouble with drunk 20 somethings because we were that age once and we know that sometimes drunk people will get worse and begin tormenting when they get a call for being too rowdy or noisy. We dealt with it but will ensure to never stay here during the night of a baseball game again. Other than that it was a nice hotel.

Milwaukee visit

Very nice place located in the city center. Historic hotel with a lot of charm. Traditional setup in lobby is very classy. I like a lot having a aperitif bar in this architectural beauty. My room was spacious and quality mattress provide a good night sleep. For this quality hotel is big "no-no" to have almost plugged sink in the tub. Checking for the slow drain has to be daily routine.

Should've stayed at Iron Horse or Brewhouse Inn

Disappointing stay especially for the price. Paid upwards $400 for a 1-night stay in a 2-bedroom suite that was not what we expected. The 4 of us shared a large suite but there were many issues. The smaller bedroom had no door and the larger bedroom had two large cutouts (?!?) in the wall! We could hear each other from each bedroom as if we were in the same room. So much for privacy. In addition, the toilet seat was loose and moved around every time we sat, the bathroom sink design caused splashes all over, the hand shower head could not be angled properly, and like a previous reviewer mentioned, the pillows were extremely tall and hard. I went without and was sore all the next day. The decor is very dated. Outlets for charging devices are hard to get to.

On the plus side, we did enjoy the salt-water hot tub and sauna in the 7th floor Zen Spa. Still, for the price, the annoyances outweighed the availability of the spa.

This is a 3-star hotel at best.
