Booked without reading reviews. Rookie mistake

On road trip, needed place to sleep with my husband and two tween daughters. Quickly booked from my phone while driving cross country.
Issues:
1. When checking in, the lady at the desk said our room number out-loud. The 5-6 other customers standing in the room clearly heard it.
2. Not clean. Their was a used child’s toothbrush on the bathroom counter in our room when we arrived.
3. Bugs. Lady bugs in the corners of the ceiling
4. Shower: too scared to use it. Looked dirty.
5. Breakfast: free cold breakfast is very very poor. The coffee was undrinkable.
Pros:
1. Quiet
2. 1st floor and lobby looked newly remodeled.
Note to self: read at least 1-2reviews before booking. Lesson learned
Nice stop on a quick trip.

I picked Heritage as an inexpensive place to spend the night on the road to a business destination. It is a convenient location right off of I-35 and I-90. Easy on and easy off.
The room was a great bargain. The room had been recently renovated, and it appears that most of the hotel is being or has been renovated. It's not a 5-star kind of place, but a good value, clean room, working appliances, etc. The breakfast is advertised as being "cold." I am not sure I would use that description. You can get toast and bagels, or instant oatmeal, but mostly cold things (cereal, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs). Nothing fancy, but adequate for a quick trip. The hotel is close to several fast-food places and a couple of nice family restaurants. Good value for the money.
HOT WATER !

After traveling and playing Pickleball needed to shower. NO HOT WATER and tub didn't drain Ugh! Went to front desk to pick up more towels as only 2 small bath towels were available and to let them know about the hot water problem the front desk clerk said she would check the water heater. I would have called down to front desk but lo and behold no phone in room. Next morning I get up to shower No Hot Water but Luke warm. Came back to room after a long day in tournament ready to shower yup only 2 small towels were replaced and the bed wasn't made BUT the shower after running 10 minutes was HOT! Again I go get 4 towels remember they are small and ask them about why the bed wasn't made...the housekeeping manager showed me that it was to be completed on her list. At this point I just took my towels and left.
Breakfast is only a cold breakfast- yogurt, bananas, some fruit, cereal, bread for toast, coffee and juice. It was ok as we don't eat much for breakfast anyway.
There was an odor in the hallways like a bad room spray...not good
A positive is the bed is comfortable
There is a pool and jacuzzi looked ok but didn't use.
The pictures on the site are inviting but nothing special for the rooms
Avoid this one, sadly...

Old outdated hotel scheduled to be a Ramada apparently. This place was nice once but is in terrible shape and really should be torn down and rebuilt. Everything is worn and worn out, loose rocking toilet, leaking shower valves, extra hole in the tub surround
where previous shower valves were. The bed was actually comfortable but the ill fitting sheets showed an old dirty cover on the mattress. Overpriced sad experience.
Hotel was convenient to the fairgrounds.

This is an older hotel which may have been a Ramada or becoming one...somewhat vague. It is quite a large facility with banquet/conference rooms, nice indoor pool, large lobby & large parking lot. The floors in the rooms have been redone to a laminate wood look that is nice. That's it for remodel in the rooms unless the beds are new. They were comfy & we slept well the 2 nights we stayed there. A cold breakfast came with the room which included: bagels & Italian bread to toast yourself, jam, butter, peanut butter & cream cheese was available too. 2 kinds of cold cereal: fruit loops & cheerios with milk. There were hard boiled eggs, bananas, cubed watermelon, oranges, and yogurt. Back to the rooms-the doorway part of the room was very noisy from the hallway and neighbors but further into the room we didn't notice the hotel noise. Now the outside hotel noise was rather loud also-a lot of motorcycles stayed at the same time. MDH noted that one cyclist must have left about 5:30 am Sunday-he didn't sleep much after that. We came for the concerts at the Freeborn Co Fair so it was easy to drive there and back. Only 1 wastebasket, 1 coffee filter for the coffee maker, crumbs & hairs in the drawers of dresser-yuk. No elevator to the second floor.
