A convenient hotel for Gare de L'Est.

I booked this hotel at the last minute after going in the Burger King next door to use the free wifi. It is close to the Gare de L'Est rail station, Metro and buses. The rooms are clean and simple, if a little tired looking, but who stays in their hotel in Paris? I wanted a hotel near the station and there are none closer. The staff are friendly, helpful and pleasant. I would definitely book this again if travelling from Gare de L'Est, but perhaps not for a prolonged, romantic stay in Paris. To get any kind of a room in Paris for €51 in early August is always going to be a bargain.
A Modest Hotel in Paris

This is not an upmarket wonder hotel but it has small clean rooms which are serviced on a daily basis. It's a good location with plentiful restaurants and bars around and it is convenient for train stations.
Hotel is alright for the price

Spent a short holiday here in april. It is a 2-star hotel (?), so you get what you pay for. :-)
Reception staff is friendly and they all speak english. You can get breakfast for 7.50 EUR per person but it is nothing special, you are better off eating out.
Overall, the hotel isn't 'modern' as the name implies, but honestly the decoration is not important as long as you get to sleep in a nice bed.
They had free (open) wi-fi and an elevator.
Upon arrival we were asked if we preferred shower or bathtub, so that was nice.
One of the downsides was that the door between the room and the bathroom was just a folding door, so whoever you are staying with, you should be comfortable with them being able to hear you pee ;-)
The room was generally clean (except the top of the cupboard etc.) but smelled a bit like smoke some days. Towels were coarse but they changed them every day.
The bed was short (like 185 cm) - but the room was small.
When we went out the first evening, the staff asked us to leave the hotel key in the reception. We found this a bit odd, but apparently it used to be common in Paris because the hotels don't want you to lose the key to your room (their hotel key is sort of special). Also, nothing happened during our stay, so no problem. The reception was open 24 hours a day, so it was not problematic when we got home late in the evenings.
It was not the finest neighborhood, but we didn't have any problems. Also, there is an entry to the metro right in front of the door and Gare de l'Est is right across the street.
So, in conclusion, it's a nice and clean hotel for the price. Don't expect anything fancy! :-)

I had completely forgotten about my story in this wonderful hotel back on 2013. I thought the hotel was great. Great location right across the street from he subway and bus lines, less than a 5 minuet walk to the Gare Du Nord train station. It was very cozy and I loved my little small balcony. Very cozy room and despite its location near the end of the line for buses and the train station, either I was too tired to notice, but the noise level was not bothersome - but then again, I live in Chicago near the airport so not much can bother me in terms of noise when your accustomed to heard 737’s descend over your home. Another plus for this location is that its in a great location for food. I ate at the Quick next door and grabbed a drink at the restaurant a couple of doors down. Great hotel for the price so check it out. Oh yes, by the way, when I was there in 2013 they ha very good/reliable WiFi which is always a plus for me.
Sad old place

This is very near the gare de l'est and that is the most positive I can be about this hotel. The room is tiny, stingy, smelly and VERY noisy. No facilities in the room and pretty expensive. I've stayed in many hotels in the gare de l'Est gare du Nord area and this must be the worst I've experienced.
