What People are saying

Very comfy hotel, great location

LizM99 on 19/11/2017 22:12

I stayed at The Alexandrian for 4 nights on a business trip and very much enjoyed this hotel. My room was huge - including a desk and 2 double beds and the bathroom was bright and clean, with a lovely shower. The bed was very comfy and I slept very well, despite the jet lag. Helpful to have a safe and an iron in the room.
One negative, the air conditioning was very noisy.
Wifi was free and reliable and the hotel was very well presented and relatively quiet.
Location is great - on the main street in Alexandria and an easy walk to restaurants and shops.

Beauty of Alexandria

Beautiful hotel in Alexandria. IMO, this is the most beautiful city in the DMV region. Would defiantly recommend to fellow travelers.

Pros: Comfortable bed, clean room, and in great condition. Great decor throughout the hotel and room. Great service from the staff. Delicious coffee, tea, and infused water in the lobby beautifully lighted indoor poor.
The offer both Valet and Self parking on-site.

Con: Only downsides were that the AC would continually reset what temperature it was set to and that there is not a concierge/club lounge for Gold/Platinum rewards members.

Alexandrian Visit

The hotel was beautiful and the staff could not do more for us. Stayed twice in October and plan to come back again soon. Food at the Jackson 20 was good and the service was quick even with larger crowds. Great place and recommend it.

Sad!

We recently stayed here for eight days, and while the location was perfect for our needs, the hotel did not live up to our expectations, or the rating it currently holds.
Recently acquired by the Marriott Group, it is in dire need of upgrading. The headboard was peeling, the heating sounded like a train rattling through, and the water pressure was poor. The reception staff were very pleasant, but there was a disconnect between them and the Housekeeping staff. Daily requests for additional towels went unheeded. I even spoke with the Duty Manager, and while they kindly gave us a discount of §100 off our total bill, little was done to improve service.
Additionally, while the food was good at the Jackson 20, the hotel’s restaurant, the service was dreadful. Staff were inattentive although the manager was charming and constantly trying to serve customers himself. Learn to MANAGE, sir!!
This is a wonderful location and I am sure that given time, and some serious changes to style of management, this hotel will be brought up to the standard of other Autograph Collection hotels we have stayed at. Meanwhile it is hard for us, as frequent travelers, to recommend this hotel to friends and family which is sad.

Nice hotel overall

We recently stayed at this hotel. The lobby area, though rather small, was very warm and inviting. We found the staff extremely friendly and helpful.
There were a few minor things that caused me to not give this an excellent rating.
Room - the room itself was very nice - the view outside the window not so much as it was an old building with lots of rotted wood visible. I kept waiting for a "critter" to crawl out from somewhere. ( I realize the view is not the hotels fault!) When we entered the room the first thing my husband said "is that blood all over the headboard?" It was not, it was the peeling, cracked fabric of the headboard. It's time to repair/replace that!! The room was not large but it was comfortable as was the bed. The bathroom was very large and nicely done.
Lobby area - there was free coffee/tea in the lobby all day long unless you went there between 8:00 - 8:30 AM . 3 out of 4 days there was no coffee. They had 2 huge urns and I found it rather unacceptable that they were both empty at that hour of the morning. Again not enough to make me never return, just an annoyance.
Staff - The hotel staff was very nice. Again we had a minor issue. They had a small happy hour and hors d'oeuvres in the evening from 5 -6. One night we came back and there was none. We asked 3 people, including the front desk if it was cancelled for the evening and everyone's response was it must be as they are not here. The next day we found out it had been on the outside back patio. Why did no one in the lobby not know that., Again just a minor annoyance.
Location - nice location for exploring the King Street area. Lots of restaurants to choose from. If you are a Starbucks lover there is one in the next block to the hotel. It is an approximate 1 mile walk to the metro on uneven brick sidewalks. At this time of year the King Street trolley does not start until 10:30 AM so you will either have to walk or take a cab. The metro was very easy to use!!
Metro - You can get everywhere using the metro. You may have to switch lines but it is not difficult.. On our last day we discovered the Yellow line ( L'Enfant stop) as the shortest ride to get from the museums back to the King Street Station. It is behind the Air and Space Museum.
Airport shuttle - the hotel has an airport shuttle . This was a great door to door service!!!
Overall our stay was very good and I would return to this hotel (but I would also consider staying closer to the metro stop)
