Whiteness Reloaded - An Experience

One of the most memorable trips I've had till now.
A little introduction of what we booked and what was in store for us. We booked in Jan but due to avalanche in Jan our trip was cancelled/postponed to March. Come March and everything in place, we reached to the place called Nedous hotel and all we could see was only 1 color i.e. White. Checkin to the hotel and we were told that we have been upgraded to a cottage...yaay!!! Mind you were 2 couples who booked using different sources and hence staff played a trick(just guessing) to auto upgrade 1 couple to a Leopard cottage and other couple to a standard room.
During the month of March, it was atleast 2 feet snow and the walkway to the executive room was full of snow. None of us was able to climb up to the rooms, we all wanted to stay next to each other. And then we were given then option of Lavender Cottage and we were also told that Mr. Ambani stayed here. The cost for this room was more than what we could imagine but looking at the room, facilities and the comfort, we decided to go for it and we were not at all disappointed. We were treated like the Ambani's(In our imagination).
Food served was of good quality and taste . Breakfast was equally good. Each and every staff member was courteous and well behaved.
This hotel is located next to ski institute but a little far to gondola ride.
White was the only color visible in March and we did take some decisions of not to take vehicles or other means of transport and just walk to gondola and it was totally worth it. Loved the Gondola ride and the way back we had our own adventure of using hand scooters(A Ski on which you site and slide down) and we had so much fun.
Coming back to the hotel, The restaurant is a charming wooden chalet of sorts, bringing vivid imaginations of a hunting cabin. The restaurant staff is very courteous and helpful, fulfilling all our requests.
The hotel has a rich history and is deeply rooted with the local culture. Our stay allowed us to experience the best of Kashmiri hospitality, culture and food.
I can never get tired of talking about this place. To put it briefly, go here if you would like wooden setting and the colonial air.
Will surely visit again to see other color of Nature and hotel as well.

Cold Stay in Nedous Hotel on 20th Oct

I went to Nedous with my family and had a mix experience. The Hotel food is good and I the Luxury Suite I booked was decent. The staff assigned was an aged Kashmiri man and he was very old and I felt bad to ask him to come for service again and again and the aged man was too good to oblige but was very difficult for me to take service from him. As we were coming from Gurgaon we felt very cold and the hotel management did not run the room heating system and hot water. Hot water was only given after I raised it to them that the water was very cold in the wash basin and also we were just given room blowers. With the kind of investment you do for a night this was not apt for the hotel to do this; and the hotel mangement should be more warm. The staff were very good and the breakfast was also very good and looking at the service offered by staff I did not want to complain but the management has to know that they have to provide better service to customers at the cost they are charging. The manager was not friendly and after lot of argument agreed to take credit card payment. I do not want to carry cash for him and he has to understand that customers going to these kind of hotels are more comfortable with credit card. I would request people if they think this hotel is expensive then go for other offerings as at this cost if the hotel does not provide proper service then it is not justified to pay above 10k.

Excellent Views and Location.

We stayed here for a night in Oct 2017.

Pros:

1. Excellent Location. The property overlooks a valley and the hotel is covered with nice gardens with different kinds of flowers. Very picturesque.
2. Spacious room with heater facility.
3. Rooms are clean and blankets are very good.
4. Breakfast is good. You can also get your breakfast packed if you are heading out early.
5. Staff are polite and friendly.
6. WiFi is decent.

Cons:
1. They dont provide a room for driver. The driver came with us to Gulmarg and it is tough for him if he doesn't get a place to stay. Staying in car can be risky especially in such cold weather, but he was left with no option. At all other places where we stayed in Kashmir (Pahalgam, Sonmarg), he was offered a place to stay.

Best hotel with location

This is the best hotel in Gurmarg. Location of hotel is excellent, just in front of golf course. I have booked Standard room but manager upgraded my room to executive room. Dining room boys Soji ji, Udin ji, Mushtaq ji, Zahoor ji and Parvaiz ji are very nice person and well dressed. They are ready to give you excellent service. Like that Room boys Showkat ji, Rashid ji Rehman ji and Javid ji make you fell that you are in home, not in hotel. They are trying to give there more than 100 percent. This is one of my best and preferred hotel to stay.

Very Good Location, average stay experience

We, a family of five (4 adults and one child) stayed for a night in this hotel during April 2017 during our one- week long Kashmir trip. We did not have an inspiring stay experience here , despite the very good location and other positive attributes of this property.

Property & its location: This hotel is located near Gulmarg Ski Institute (The Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering) and opposite the Gulmarg Golf Club. It is in a serene, peaceful location, away from the market area. Spread over several acres of sprawling land with majestic mountains behind and a well maintained Golf course in front, this property’s location is a traveler’s delight.

Rooms: They have mainly four categories of rooms-Standard Rooms, Executive Rooms, Luxury Suites and Cottages. We stayed in Standard Rooms, which were just ordinary. However, the rooms and bathrooms were clean and tidy. The standard rooms offer no views.

Service: In its web site, the hotel claims that it has “a history of over 120 years of excellence in hospitality and that Nedou’s gives you a perfect blend of European heritage with an Indian welcome”. However, our stay experience in this hotel did not vouch for these claims. May be they had a glorious past in hospitality. However, presently their service quality can only be rated as just “above average”.

Food: Food served was of good quality and taste . Breakfast, though of limited spread, was good. We ordered a la carte dinner and enjoyed the same.

Heating: There was no electric power in the hotel almost during the entire night of our stay. Though the hotel has generator back up, they did not run the generators and we were left” in the cold” (as the electric blanket, room heater, etc were not working). On discrete enquiries with the hotel staff, we later came to know that they did not run the generators due to poor occupancy. Lesson: Check the occupancy levels before checking in this hotel.

Front office: Front office personnel were found more bureaucratic in their dealings with guests. Though not discourteous, the intended level of courtesy and warmth was found wanting in them.

Overall, an average stay experience.
