Nice, clean budget hotel in an excellent area. Get a room with a balcony overlooking the street, a little noisy but it quiets up after 10. No ac so I wouldn't recommend it for the hot months and it takes forever to get hot water. This place us not for the pampered but a real taste of Guadalajara and I enjoyed it.

Do not stay here. Do not even consider it.

I booked three nights here through booking.com. This cost me 67USD.

On arriving, I saw that entry was through an iron gate which was locked. A button on the wall hung from an open wire. I was buzzed in. Carpets utterly filthy, the artex walls had a centimetre build up of dust on them. Top of the stairs another iron gate to pass. I could not help wonder why?

Check on was pleasant enough. Beatriz was very pleasant and helpful, knew her stuff (go and work elsewhere, Beatriz, your skills are truly wasted) and gave me a map etc.

Entering the room I felt like I had entered a place untouched since 1980. The room was massive. The walls were artexed, not very well, and the furnishings were thick with dust. On pulling back the bed sheets, I was presented with a long black hair. I didn't unpack.

The shower room was filthy. I used neither the shower or the toilet bowl.

The front shutters/ Windows did not close so the traffic noise was horrific. They were caked in paint and ill fitted. The door to the room was made up of glass panels, one which was replaced by a birthday card which had been painted over.

You need to ask to be buzzed out of the gates, to the annoyance of night staff. My room was first to the left of the upper gate, so I was repeatedly disturbed by the gate slamming. The phones rang all night long, there was noise from a generator, which I could not locate, and to be honest I was quite uneasy leaving the room to complain.

I booked into the holiday inn suites on Suarez at 1:30 am and checked out at 8 am. I have never done this in my life. This actually is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I have stayed in slums in India, low rate apartments in Colombia, but none have matched this. Terrible.

Outstanding location, great value

The hotel struck me as a little odd at first because it is on the second floor of an old building and all the rooms are spread around a central indoor patio; it was clearly once a huge house. My room was simple but clean and satisfactory. The double doors seemed easy to open, but in reality I didn't have any problems locking them shut. I even had a balcony overlooking the main street, which was quite nice. The hotel was only a block away from the main city square and a couple of blocks from many museums, etc, so I found the location extremely convenient.

Good stay but...

I stayed at Posada Regis 9 nights so I feel like I can give a good review of it. The hotel is on the second floor of the building. There is a sign in front where the stairway from street level is located but it's not the easiest to see. All rooms are on the second floor of the building. Rooms face the main street (Corona), side street (Cotilla), or have no windows in the back. All rooms are around the main lobby which is nice and comfortable, but when I was there, I was one of the few people there so not much action going on in the lobby area. You have to pay a 100 peso deposit for the remote control. The TV had a few English stations (but mostly drama and reality shows - not CNN or something). The room ceilings are REALLY high which was nice. The room was average size - two beds with a very small balcony (can't fit a chair on the balcony) and very simple. The bathroom in my room was VERY small (see below). I had read somewhere, maybe old, that the hotel had a cafe. I sure didn't see one! There are two computers in the lobby that you can pay 20 pesos per hour for internet. They were pretty slow. They also had a refrigerator with drinks to buy in the lobby which was nice for convenience.

The positives were:
Location - It is 2.5 blocks south of one of the main squares. Outstanding location. You can walk to all the sites. Two good restaurants (La Chata and La Gorda) are a half block away in each direction. Bakerys, coffee shops, snack stores, etc. within a block or two. Very good location.

Price - Very good price (I paid 420 pesos per night for one person) for the location.

Clean - I found my room to be clean

The negatives were:
Hotel staff - Not friendly at all. In fact, this is one reason why I may choose not to stay here again. There was one woman that was reasonably nice but the others acted like they were just annoyed with me as I came and went (they have to hit a switch to let you in and out of the hotel). I stayed 9 nights and you would think they would be a little courteous. I lost a credit card in my room and other personal items (placed it in something that was thrown away by cleaning staff - completely my fault). I asked to use the computer to get the number to cancel my credit card (they have two computers in the lobby for guests - charge 20 pesos per hour). Instead of letting me use it for free, they proceeded to charge me 10 pesos, yes 83 cents, because I needed to look up the number to cancel my card. Sure the cost is nothing but it's the principle of charging that when they knew I was stressed because I had lost things and needed to cancel my credit card. Another example is at check out. After proceeding to say I was checking out, not one word to me. No "did you enjoy your 9 night stay?" "Hope to see you again" "thanks for staying with us" NOTHING was said to me. I asked "Is that all?" in spanish when she gave me my remote control deposit and she said nodded and that was it. Mind boggling. You stay there 9 nights and they can't say anything to you at checkout? Sure my Spanish isn't great but go ahead and say SOMETHING. This just really bugged since I stayed 9 nights and they acted like I was a nuisance to them because I was staying there. Excuse me!

Noise - I had a room that faced the side street (Cotilla). It is VERY noisy until about 11 PM with cars and buses. I bet staying in one of the rooms on Corona is even worse. Just beware that this is not a hotel, if you want a room with a window, to stay at if you want it peaceful and quiet. It is in the middle of the downtown area and the walls are very thin. It was very loud to the point where I almost switched rooms, but I liked having the small balcony to stand out there and watch the action during the day. Constant noise during the day. Occassional noise from 11 PM to 6 AM (including multiple business alarms!)

Bathroom - The bathroom wasn't the smallest bathroom I have ever been in. I think the toilet and sink area was smaller than an airplane bathroom. Extremely small. This probably depends by room though. Mine was you walked into the bathroom and you were in the shower and there was a step up to the sink and toilet area. Extremely small. A drawback for sure if there are two people. It was just me so I made it work. Also, it took about 3 minutes of running the shower to get luke warm water. It was difficult to maintain a decent temperature. Water pressure was not very good. I have this is common in Mexico so this did not bother me too much.

Would I stay here again? Probably, because of the location and the right price, but the constant street noise and the unfriendly hotel staff may make me decide to stay elsewhere.

Nice view, perfect location

I went to Posada Regis for a 5 night stay, the hotel is perfect located in center of Guadalajara, you can go walking everywhere and there are bus stations really near. The staff are nice, and the balcony views are amazing. For the price you are paying, its just really nice to stay there. They don´t have bfast, but common, you´re in GUADALAJARA there´s plenty of delicious food to eat there.

The only thing I didn´t like about it, was the bathroom... if you like privacy you´re not getting it here. It has a small really small bathroom, (this is also because the building is really old and they just made adaptations) it has a transparent door where you can CLEARLY see the silohuette of the person taking a shower, its actually really unconfortable because there´s a bed in FRONT of that door.
