Ranikhet is awesome place to be. We stayed at Hotel Rajdeep and our experience was great. We enjoyed breathtaking view of Himalayas and the staff was friendly too.. They serve all veg cuisine and taste was good. We had a great experience learning a few words of Kumaoni from one of their staff.

The hotel is a prime place in Ranikhet. The building is old and designed with two doors in the toilets for the cleaning person. The rooms are spacious and value for money. The owner is a nice person. I had no problem booking it in Dec 2016 last week. Food is vegetarian and not too expensive. The hotel has a lots of shops around. They have a on road parking.

I hadn't made any reservations in any hotel before arriving to Ranikhet. I had read about this hotel in rough guide so gave it a try. I called while on the way and asked them if rooms were available, they said no but when I reached Ranikhet and was looking for hotel I came across it and asked them they said yes rooms are available!! In fact plenty of rooms were available. Strange people !! Since we were tired from a long journey and had hardly any energy left so decided to stay here. What a wrong decision it was. Bathrooms were small and smelly. One of the room didn't have even bulb, we had to call the staff to get one in place. Bathrooms had two doors, the second door opened almost at the doorsteps of another room !! I could even hear voices from the other room in my bathroom. Rooms were very basic with just TV, bed and old furniture. Since the hotel is in sadr bazar area so there were a lot noises from the adjacent street. Dont expect any view of mountains from here. Food was okey. Staff was helpful. Cud be good for budget group travellers but not for family. Avoid it.
Bad!

the bed sheets were smelly, the rooms were extremely stuffy, the service was nonexistent and the TV didnt work!
This seems to be a colonial era hotel with some bad quality management.
Avoid at all costs.

We were a group of friends and needed a place to crash, not too fancy. Hotel Rajdeep suited our budget (Rs. 500/room per night), hence we stayed. Facilities are basic, hot water was provided in the morning in the bucket. Room was clean, TV was working fine. Since is it in the middle of the market and on the main road, it gets noisy early in the morning itself.
Overall, I would rate it not too bad, not too good either.
