Perfectly located in the old city and walking distance to all sites. Old charming hotel and restaurant with wonderful and friendly staff. Our room has a beautiful view of the hills. This hotel makes one feel like traveling back in times. The bathroom was a decent size but has a tiny shower stall. The shower was awkwardly angled but had a good supply of hot water. Breakfast is provided at the restaurant and it is fun to watch the locals stopping by for coffee and catching up. The restaurant has very good food and excellent service.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a 7 night stay here in Room 103 ( the best room according to Roberto). It was my second visit here but my husband's first to Il Sole. Our room was quite large with a double bed and a single. Unfortunately there was no separate shower cubicle only a hand held spray over the bath that took ages for warm water to come through. We did not complain to management as we could manage. Breakfast was always the same - boxed Kellogs cereals, bottled water or orange juice. Cheese and ham, yogurts, croissants and small hard bread rolls. Roberto or his mama made us tea or coffee. What is outstanding about this place is it's cleanliness - not a speck of dust anywhere. It is also very quiet despite being on the edge of Piazza Vechia. It is a great place to people watch at breakfast as the passageway outside is always busy. We will be back.

just back from n excellent 4 night stay here. the location is fantastic just off the main square(piazza vecchia) in Bergamo Alta. Room was very clean,plenty of space and quiet because it faces out onto courtyard at rear of building,decor is bit tired could do with freshing up,also no air con. Staff are cheery,pleasant and very helpful.Having eaten here many times in the past we knew that the food is very good and reasonably priced with good selection of drinks available too,also true of the continental style breakfast..Definitely stay here again,very convenient for us..

the waiters are very friendly and is a very relaxed atmosphere...the food was good my only complaint is everything was swimming in melted butter...even the pasta with tomato and basilico..I was a chef...and drowning everything in butter is not the way....I looked around at other tables....butter everywhere

This place is small and smack bang in the middle of the old city. The rooms may not be super luxurious, but they make you feel at home. Nothing over the top, maybe a little hot in the summer, not sure. But how can the location be beat?! The food is fantastic, the WIFI great, parking for a car 300m away (little adventure trip if you don't have a super Mini, but perfectly doable). Can only recommend this hotel.
