My dear Slovenian friends! If you renovated those rooms (and bathrooms!), you would have a gem of a hotel. The rooms are sad-looking and the bathrooms are too old as well. We can see the old socialist remnants and there is no reason that those rooms should be looking like it is still 1981.
We loved the terrace, surrounded by woods. The buffet breakfast (free) and dinner (affordable fee) are very good and we enjoyed the variety of choices for dinner.
Our room was overlooking the parking and tennis courts, so we had to close the windows/balcony door, as it can get noisy outside.
The location is not too bad, even though it is a bit far of a walk to the lake and the city center. The front staff are nice and multilingual. They gave us a map and patiently explained how to get to the lake.
We also used the opportunity to visit neighboring Austria, as it is a very quick ride to Klagenfurt.

Hotel was charming.Staff were excellent, and rooms were always clean. Breakfast and dinner were very good and quite affordable.
Family restaurants were within walking distance.
Front desk were always very helpful and accommodating.

This was like Fawlty Towers.
It was dirty and the room was scruffy and falling apart.
The curtains were so old they were disintegrating.
The door on to the balcony was totally insecure and this was NOT taken seriously by staff. It would not lock at all.
The bathroom was filthy and the towel rail was falling off the wall.
The shower head was worn out and would not sit in its support bracket. The bath was so small and the glass curtain would not close. As a consequence the floor got flooded and was slippery and very dangerous. Both me and my partner fell over. The mirror was broken on arrival. The staff did not take this seriously.
The duvets were inadequate.
The food was not good. There were no proper queues and a greedy group from another company pushed in front of us and ate ALL the fish on the first night. We got back before them the second night and they got angry when we did get fish!
The breakfast was acceptable but nowhere nearly as good as in other hotels.
The staff were rude and unhelpful. In fact we paid in cash for our drinks and then were accused of not paying for wine and water when we had NEVER ordered any at the table.
To top it all, the hotel was miles from anywhere useful. We felt cut off and imprisoned in this truly vile hotel. It was not even three star!

We took a school group here and weren't the only group (there was a cycling tour and a chinese religious group too). The hotel is comfortable and clean with beautiful surroundings. The breakfast is a wide ranging buffet with something for everyone and you can eat it out on the lovely terrace overlooking the Julian alps. The hotel is a good base for exploring and we walked into Bled (30 minutes) every day as well as walking to the Vintgar Gorge (90 minutes). The staff are very helpful and are there late into the night ready to help at all times. The only downside is a lack of air conditioning but they do provide fans in the rooms to combat this and we slept very well.

The Hotel Ribno was chosen for us by our travel agency. When we first saw the other ratings and comments on TripAdvisor we were very worried. The hotel did turn out to be better than its ratings though. We had a room looking out over the terrasse and the woods which was quite nice. There was enough light in the room and the room itself (and most of the bathroom) was clean. The breakfast buffet was good and had a lot of choice and we were allowed to sit outside, which was very nice. They even offered soy and rice milk, which was great since I am lactose intolerant.
The location in the middle of the woods is very nice, but it also means that one has to go to Bled by car for nearly every visit and pay for parking there.
Now to the downsides: Our bed consisted of 2 bunk beds placed side by side instead of on top of each other. Which meant that there was a huge gap between my side of the bed and my husband's side. So it was not cosy.
The bathroom was tiny and although mostly clean did not feel very welcoming. The button for flushing the toilet revealed a lot of dirty area when being pressed.
The friendliness of the staff was mixed. Some were very friendly trying to help us, others were just indifferent. (E.g. After Check out there wasn't even a "Good bye".)
For the first 3 nights there were a bunch of teenagers on a field-trip in the rooms close to ours and accordingly it was very noisy in the evening. However their teachers had a good handle on them so at least it got quiet for bed time.
We had the Dinner buffet twice and while OK, I would not have wanted to have it a third time. It was very similar both times we had it. So it is good to have the option to stay in the hotel for Dinner after a long day hiking, but don't do it to often.
