Stayed at the San Marco in September, This hotel does what it says on the tin, Great location on the beech all the basics bar, restaurant, pool, lounge area, The room was very clean and had a fridge and was cleaned every day, The staff all had good english and one had spent a couple of years in Dublin so was great help, The staff were also very helpful and gave great advice on what to do and what to avoid.
Although rated 4 star its not our standard of four star, this does not take away the experience, The hotel is a very a very easy 15/20 min walk to the centre of Alghero. Recommended location for this area of Sardinia. Note when booking try and request a balcony room.

Great location with a nice privat beach. Beach parasol and sunbeds are reasonably priced. (€15 for parasol and two beds per day)
Rooms are ok, but standard is low.
Cleaning is so and so, just sweeping the floor.
Shower drain was clogged, and kitchen ventilator did not work.

The reception at the hotel was most helpful on arrival - friendly staff. Our apartment was very comfortable - rooms cleaned every day except Wednesday. Margureta the Cleaning Manager was so nice and her staff. The piano playing every night became a little boring, but at the same time was in obtrusive and gentle playing. The beach opposite was not great, with respect to the smell of rotting algai - at first we thought it was sewerage, on and off only there was a smell, but the other beaches made up for this.

The San Marco Hotel is a great place to stay. The balcony was small but the view was spectacular. The room was spotless. It was cleaned every day, towels and bedding changed very regularly.The staff were really friendly. The food in the hotel restaurant was excellent. The beach is just across the road. I would definitely go back. Highly recommended.

My husband & I stayed at the San Marco in a studio apartment for a week. Great location, beach right across the road. Studio is compact but has everything needed for a self-catering holiday. The room was cleaned everyday except Wednesday. The San Marco is kept very clean plus the staff are friendly and helpful. There is a supermarket a short distance away, as well as bike rental, pizzerias, coffee & gelato places. Would recommend Oops Gelato. The San Marco has a bookshelf opposite reception where you can leave or swap a book. Also beside the books you can find some beach equipment to borrow, obviously items which were left behind by guests. We borrowed an umbrella & a couple of deck chairs. Bike rental is a good idea, since there is a cycle path which is totally flat that runs along side the promenade to the old town. It was our first time to Sardinia and would love to go back. The San Marco has AC but at a charge. However there was a constant breeze, so personally we did not find it necessary. It was very hot last week mid to high 30 C. At night it was very comfortable. There is a tourist tax that has to be paid in cash to the hotel before departure. I would highly recommend The San Marco. There is free wifi in reception which works very well. Thanks for a great vacation.
