Nice hotel, but one waiter in restourant (spectacled, skiny) was impolite and unpleasant. Food isn't hot.
At reception, overnight (at departure day), we asked about picnick (departure time 04,00 p.m.), but then we move out - nobody at reception wist about our picnick :)
But we are hapy, that we choosed this hotel.

Wonderful hotel. We stayed in a family in a triple and very spacious room at the back of the hotel. The location suited us, away from the centre a little but close enough to walk to beaches and the castle. The room was quiet and had a private balcony, whereas some balconies were connecting. We stayed half board and liked how we could have lunch or dinner as our second meal. That said we only had evening meals after busy days on this wonderful island. The staff were polite and truly helpful. The restaurant staff were outstanding and food was delicious. We had every intention of eating out more in the evening despite being half board but enjoyed the restaurant so much. They had special evenings and we also enjoyed these: gala night and music one evening, nothing too lively which suited us. Lovely pool and thermal pool which were clean. We would return.
Good Value For Money But Not A 4 Star Experience

The San Valentino has some great plus points; liked the quiet location within easy walking distance of Ischia Porto and Ischia Ponte, lovely surroundings/public areas, clean, adequately appointed rooms, and the Reception staff were extremely responsive and helpful.
However, from our perspective there were certainly some negatives. Firstly, the air conditioning is apparently not switched on until late June, and whilst not absolutely essential during our stay, having the windows open on the (admittedly only occasional) nights the hotel had live music, or a local festival resulted in fireworks going off after midnight, made for some rather disturbed nights. Our other main issue was the restaurant. We were on a half-board deal, and although the food was fine, the breakfast buffet was fairly uninspiring and breakfast service never seemed ready to start at the advertised 7.30 am. Further, as neither the breakfast buffet nor, more particularly, the antipasto buffet at dinner were properly replenished, there was always an unseemly rush as soon as dinner service started which hardly made for relaxing mealtimes.
We never used it, but it seemed like quite a lot of our fellow-guests were there for the spa. The outside pool area is quite small, and although not a problem the couple of times we were there, I imagine it might be difficult to find space if the hotel is full.
Overall we were happy with our stay for the price we paid, but it didn't really meet the standard I would expect from a 4 star hotel.
Not at all like advertised.

This hotel went from just plain weird and dated to my version of hotel hell. I'd rather be stuck on NYC's subway overnight fending off giant squealing rats with flaming trashcans than stay here again.
I'll start with the pros, because there are some:
Location is pretty good. Cabs around ten euros to the city center or a 20 minute walk. I also walked (admittedly uphill most of the way) 40 minutes to a lovely secluded beach at Carta Romana. The castle is 30 minute stroll at most, very easy to get to. A bit steep and hilly, be careful if you have mobility issues. Good water pressure as well.
The grounds are also lovely, the outdoor pool is great, that part meets expectations.
Okay. The cons. LORD WHERE DO I BEGIN.
Well, for starters, this hotel caters predominately to the 55 and up
set. Which is fine, who cares, except that the entire hotel and how it functions is for retirees. I'm 42, I'm no spring chicken, but I don't want to be herded around for meal times in a single file line and treated like an outsider, constantly stared at by guests and staff as if I'm an alien from Not Really Old Yet planet. And yes you will be stared at. A lot.
The staff is either very curt and act like they hate you half the time, or they're the kitchen staff who CLEARLY hate you ALL of the time. The dining room organization is a disaster, I was moved from seat to seat so many times I decided to just avoid the experience altogether. They are not helpful dining staff, they will skip you and ignore you, all while wearing slightly ill fitting uniforms from the 70s just to make everything that more surreal.
And on top of it all, the food is subpar at best. Breakfast buffet is some sad bowls of cereal & yogurt, canned peaches, two types of sliced meat, one cheese, few bread rolls, a few cakes (some stale) and whatever dessert was leftover from the previous night's dinner. Reminded me of eating at my grandma's on nights she didn't want to cook.
The decor is dated, really dated. Cheap wooden furniture you'll constantly smack your legs in to and a hair dryer connected with a hose that gets way hotter than the air coming out. I haven't seen one of these hair dryers since 1978. I'll upload a photo. I recommend bringing your own hair dryer. And watch out that room cleaning doesn't take all your towels without leaving fresh ones, I realized too late and was trying to dry off with a small square of cloth. Staff also ignored my do not disturb sign BUT that might have fallen off in the night. Flimsy is as flimsy does.
Between the surly staff, comedy of errors in the dining room and dated and at times creepy decor (I firmly believe a rocking chair in the lobby is haunted), I feel like I'm in a mix of The Shining meets Fawlty Towers.
And I didn't even get to the best part. There's an excruciatingly loud disco from 9-ish until midnight (at least I hope it stops at midnight, I'm currently IN THE HOTEL RIGHT NOW typing this, and I will go Game of Thrones INSANE if this noise salad does not FOR THE LOVE shut up) but only for the older set. I'm talking Vegas golden era covers that are just wretchedly done, and at the same so bewilderingly loud that I can only surmise the neighbors in a mile radius have a love affair with lousy cover bands. It's just wrong. I don't travel to a foreign country to belt out their classic tunes on what is essentially a gigantic karaoke microphone so don't do it with our iconic songs.
Doesn't help the walls are thin and you will hear everything. Everything. Including Doris or Fiona or whoever she was upstairs from me who decided to take her wheeled luggage on a spin in her room for about forty minutes...at 2:45 in the morning. That was fun.
Which brings me to a final point. There is no a/c or shuttle service until mid June. So I'm very glad I was told to just open my doors for a cool breeze on a night when the discotheque came to town.
I now understand the reasoning behind the plot to Footloose. Screw music, may it burn in hell.
Did I mention I also have a cold? Because I do. Coming down with a sickness while on holiday definitely blows, but coming down with a cold while at this hotel is basically abuse.
If you want a weird time with no real sleep and crappy food, look no further. This is the place for you.
Multitude of services, politeness and attention to guests' requirements

This hotel was recommended to us by some friends. Its location is very comfortable and quiet as well: Within walking distance one can reach both Ischia Ponte and Ischia Porto as well as the beach. Furthermore, it is close to a wide public park.
Staff was helpful and friendly and the room we got was on the 2nd floor with a beautiful view on the sea and the Aragona Castle (in Ischia Ponte). Every morning we tasted our delicious breakfast on the room terrace as its view was a really impressive.
The hotel Spa is well-worth visiting: There is a free wellbeing path with indoor thermal pools, sauna, emotional showers, Kneipp pools and Turkish bath. Truly, this was the time of relaxation and regeneration which we deeply needed after a period of stressful events. We also chose some treatments (such as antistress massage, foot reflexology and cryotherapy) which were carried out by attentive, skilled physiotherapists, thus turning out to be extremely beneficial to us.
Cuisine is genuine and tasty: Lots of Mediterranean traditional specialities which also got the merit of being light and digestible - which one can't easily expect by a large hotel. Noteworthy are also the homemade desserts: mouthwatering delicacies!
Definitely a highly satisfying experience, especially if considering that the price-quality ratio is very good.
