Best part of our vacation

Can't say enough good things about our stay at this castle. Special thanks to Maggie that went out of her way to make our stay great! I thought staying in a castle might be creepy but I was shocked at how comfortable and luxurious everything was. Breakfast was also great and there is an excellent kids park about 750 meters away. Next time we will stay two nights.
Romantic weekend

Beautiful castle with great and clean rooms. They have good breakfast and very nice staff. But for dinner you should go with car to the town. It is difficult to go to their spa, because they closed it at 7 pm.
Fabulous Stay in Authentic Castle!

If you want to stay in a genuine castle then book this one! The whole castle is beautifully decorated and no expense has been spared on the fittings, it truly is an amazing experience. We had castle room 10. It's a big room with beautiful views over the snowy fields. It's very well heated with plenty of hot water. The bed has a latex mattress so really comfortable, I hardly felt my partner move at all :)! The owners and staff are extremely friendly and helpful and happy to tell you about the history of the castle if you're interested. Please note this is not a party place but more of a peaceful retreat in a beautiful castle. In the winter there much in the way of restaurants or bars open in or around the castle but it's very close to drive into beautiful Rattenberg for lunch or dinner and believe me the breakfast is ample enough to get you through until lunch or even dinner!
Nice castle, awful service

I never write bad reviews but this time I decided to take a bit of time to write the review (mostly aimed as information for the owners of the hotel). We decided to visit this nice authentic castle on the way back from skiing for one night. I liked the photos of the castle, information about the nice spa area and the restaurant. The first problem was no response for the whole day from the hotel to the e-mail I wrote to them. Therefore, I had to find internet and use an online booking service to book the hotel. We arrived in the evening (around 7:30 pm). The lady at the reception told us that the spa and the restaurants were already closed. I believe a 4 star hotel should be able to provide some kind of food at 8pm!!! We asked about the spa area and the woman at the reception said that it opens only after 2 pm but if we want to use it earlier in the morning then they could let us in but for additional charge (it is supposed to be free for the guests). So we decided to go out to some restaurant. When we returned to the hotel, the door was locked and the passcode which the lady at the reception gave us is not working. So we had to stand and wait outside (it was minus 7 degrees btw) ringing the bell and trying to communicate with a non English speaking person. Then I tried calling their phone number and finally a man answered and told me that everything is working and I should just press the code. So another 5 minutes go by, we're freezing and finally they manage to open the door from inside. The man who was inside just said that the door is working fine and that they just gave us a wrong code!!! He didn't even apologize. So to add it up: no restaurant, no spa, no simple briefing or welcoming from the reception lady about the hotel (usually when we stay in historical places we get a good introduction and even a short tour), not even a sorry for making us wait for 10 minutes outside. It was the worst client service I ever saw in a 4 star hotel (even 3 star hotels offer way better service). As of the castle itself it looked really nice and authentic, the room was spacious and clean, the breakfast was good.
So to sum it up, the castle is nice but there is something that needs to be done with the level of attention to the clients. For the client the most important thing is service and no matter how good the hotel is, the first impression you receive from the hotel staff is what you leave with.
LUXURIOUS CASTLE HOTEL WITH ALL MODERN AMENITIES!!!

I checked into Schloss Matzen with my family June, 2015. Pictures on the internet do not do it justice! I have frequented some of the most luxurious hotels in the world but Schloss Matzen is right at the top of the list of the finest hotels I have ever vacationed. Their staterooms are elegantly decorated with fine antiques. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms appointed with flatscreen televisions and all modern convenience with exception of air conditioning. Air conditioning is not vitally important in this Alpine region of Austria.
Tobias, a very polite young man checked us in giving us a complete tour of the castle hotel. Our rooms were absolutely fabulous with Kingsize beds, sitting areas, and luxurious baths with Bidet, marble floors, whirlpool baths for two and large showers. The entire property is palatial and romantic. My wife and I booked a suite for ourselves and another for our children. The main four story turret of the castle winds up a circular staircase to the spa with health treatments, steam rooms, dry saunas, and a workout gymnasium.
Our breakfasts were equally impressive with a European, multi-course buffet of meat and cheese selections, salmon and a variety of breads, oats, cereals, and eggs. Dinner was also opulent with the finest offerings of regional foods from Austria. Our server and chef also were amazing, offering pleasant service and prompt attention.
I cannot imagine a more romantic hotel for newlyweds and lovers to spend their holidays. If you want to experience royal treatment and excellent service surrounded by spectacular surroundings, drive south from Bavaria just over the border into Austria where you will feel like a king of your own castle.
