Our preference when touring Europe is to stay close to the main railway station as all our travel is by train, hence Scott House was selected after seeing reviews on Trip Advisor.
However, after travelling for over 24 hours with no sleep you would hope as is the case in America and Australia that they might find a room for you a bit earlier than the 2pm check in.
The answer was no and told to come back at 2pm. Arrive back at six minutes to 2, sorry check in not open yet and there are others waiting. No there were no others waiting they were booked into another hotel.
Then there was the demand for Rome City Tax.By this time we were exhausted and I pointed out that last time we were in Rome we paid the tax at the end of our stay. The person said that the law had changed, of course it had not as I checked later.The threat of course was no tax no key.
Very unprofessional but what do you expect in Italy. They had 50 million visitors this summer so do not care about one customer.
The room was very nice with a balcony which we loved. The bathroom modern and very functional but with a small shower which is not unusual in Italy. Bed was also comfortable and provided a kettle which is a must for travelling Australians.
On the downside the air conditioner did not work properly so avoid in summer and the TV was so small and so far up the wall (presumably to stop people pinching it) that it was useless.
Breakfast was good, but several of the wait staff clearly did not want to be there which is not a good way to start the day.
While Scott House is ostensibly a Hotel it is run with the the mentality of a Backpackers.There are many hotels close to Rome railway station and I suggest you look elsewhere for accommodation.

The Scott House Hotel reception is actually on the fourth floor of the building, and to get into the building you need to be buzzed in. To access the lift you first have to climb a short flight of stairs (which can be tricky with a large suitcase!). The lift itself seemed a little frail, could only fit two adults and two suitcases in at a time, and had completely broken down by the day we left.
The room itself was quite lovely, with a big window and tea/coffee facilities in the room but the shower recess was ludicrously small. The opening to get into the shower was about 30cm wide and once inside you could barley turn around. How it gets cleaned properly I'll never know - but it was a relatively clean bathroom. Good location but very noisy street below, most of the noise was blocked out by keeping the windows firmly shut. The breakfast was simple but fresh and the reception staff super friendly.

Top marks for position - 100 meters from the Termini Railway station with rail connection to the airport. The entrance is a bit off putting as it is shared with about 5-6other hotels in the building and looks a bit rundown.. The Scott House is without doubt the best of all. It is on the 4th and 5th floors, there is a lift which is not well signposted on the ground floor. The work done to upgrade the hotel is obvious and quite tasteful. These are the pluses.
The minuses as they affected me - I had the furthest away room from reception on the floor above, For the first day or two the wi fi worked but after that reception on my room was nil. I like sleeping in a double bed and will always book that even when travelling alone. So I was offered a small double with a standard bed so far so good. if there had been 2 people in the room it would have been a bit of a squeeze. The bathroom was the depth of the bedroom and about 3.6ft in depth, so a bit of a corridor in effect. everything was there, even a bidet but the shower fitted on the corner of the bathroom was definitely a squeeze to get in or out of, luckily, I am not overweight. No shelf to put toiletries, there were signs that one had been fitted at one time but had been removed, possibly through lack of space. On the plus side, plenty of hot water and towels were changed every day.
The television 21" flat screen with Sky, was fitted at ceiling height, I never managed to get it to work properly and with it being so high I quickly gave up trying to watch it.
The breakfast provided was reasonable, the staff on reception were always very pleasant and helpful. So this is my review , take from it what you will. As ever you get what you pay for.

Didnt really stay here as we booked and they moved us to Demetra Hotel for free, but didnt explain why.
Hotel interior is modern,didnt have a chnace to check the rooms. I wish that they could have inform us through emails about changing to another hotel, so we wont carry luggages up and down.

The worst thing is that the hotel is in a 4-5 floor and the elevator didn't work, A/C in the room didn't work, the shower also had a lot of holes were the water licked so every single time we get a bath the whole bathroom got all wet, the staff is really disrespectful and didn't care about solving our problems, it was a bad experience. it is really near Termini which is the only good thing about this hotel
