What People are saying

A lovely hotel in a superb position

wellsatisfied22 on 18/06/2017 21:32

My sister and I spent a few days at this hotel in May. The staff were excellent and could not do enough to help us. The hotel could not be in a better position. Go out of one door and you are in the Castle Square and out of the other and you are in the main square where there is the pier for ferries to other villages on the Lake. Sirmione itself is just magic and I hope to go back there one day.

Really good hotel

Stayed here for seven nights. Having read some recent reviews I was worried but I have to say that this is a very good hotel. Excellent restaurant, breakfast, pool, sauna, bar. Housekeeping was also very good. Staff very helpful and allowed us to keep room til 12.30pm on day of checkout. We weren't able to get a room with a balcony as totally booked out but room was fine. Maybe could do with a bit of refurbishment but public areas fine. Think it's reasonably priced. Would highly recommend

beautiful setting with helpful staff

We stayed here with our sons and their wives, so we had 4 rooms all total. We had a mishap that required us to go to the emergency room with one of our sons, and Nicole from the front desk gave us an excellent recommendation for hospital and the address. Once we realized that we would need to stay an extra night, we called the hotel from the hospital and Nicole arranged for us to have an extra night, without having to move to different rooms. The rate was actually much lower than our first night, so we were very relieved and pleased. Thank you, Nicole! The hotel is lovely...pool, breakfast, etc. were up to typical European standards, with air conditioned rooms and modern amenities. We plan to return!

Appalling

Before I get into the ugly side of Hotel Sirmione, I would like to commend their reception staff who were informative, helpful and flexible.

Now to the rest of the hotel. There are so many negatives I need to summarise with some bullet points:

- 1970's decor
- Tiny TV
- Broken bed
- Dirty and stained carpets
- Useless air-conditioning (if you want to sleep at night in the summer sleep outside)
- Terribly limited breakfast
- Rude waiters
- Horrible pool
- Inadequate space for guests to sit by the pool. Probably 10% of guests will achieve that per day and you have to be up at the crack of dawn to get ahead of the others - not what I would call relaxing.
- Completely overpriced. It is not even 2 star and claims to be 4 star.

A truly horrible and tacky experience. Eurotrash.

Very odd experience

We had a very strange experience with this hotel. Our window facing the lake was left open for less than half an hour until we noticed it and closed it. We looked up to the ceiling and noticed approximately 80-100 bugs of various sizes, many of which were mosquitos covering the walls. We quickly called reception to request a new room or a solution to the problem. A few minutes later, a hotel employee came with a long hosed vacuum to suck up the mass quantity of bugs. He got most of the insects and then turned off the vacuum and unplugged it in an effort to leave. I noticed about 30 bugs remaining and I offered to help him with the rest of the bugs. He left saying anything else and without cleaning up the rest of the bugs and did not allow me to vacuum the rest. We then got towels to swat at the rest of the bugs so that we did not get eaten by mosquitos in our sleep.

Another odd thing about this hotel is the light and power system. To keep the lights and power on in the room, a card must be inserted into a slot inside the room. This is a smart and innovative solution to conserving energy by ensuring that the room is powered off when guests leave. However, the system was not made apparent to us until we were in the bathroom and 30 seconds later, it was pitch black dark. We then figured out the system that we had not seen anywhere before.

Additionally, on the second night of our stay, our cards stopped working and we lost access to the room. This was relatively easily fixed after we went to the front desk and explained the issue, but it was still odd.

Also, the pool on the lower level had some odd rules that we had not encountered before. Guests could only wear specific sanitary shoes into the pool area and a swimming cap must be worn while in the pool. This was a minor inconvenience, but ultimately deterred us from going into the pool.

One last issue that I had with the room was the very poorly designed bathroom, specifically the shower. The glass wall of the shower covers approximately one third of the tub. Therefore, while showering, the wall is inadequate to contain the splash of water and ends up minorly flooding the bathroom floor. This is also a minor inconvenience, but still something odd that could be easily fixed and is clearly a design flaw.
