What People are saying

Old world charm

Arati2015 on 07/10/2017 18:59

We visited Springfields earlier this year and really liked the ambience of this heritage property and the hospitality we received there. The hotel used too be a summer palace of a king and still retains its old-world charm along with charming fireplaces, antique furniture and artefacts. We had a wonderful conversation with the erstwhile prince and princess who still own the property and have wonderful stories to tell about the life in Shimla in olden days. The rooms have huge windows with great views and the staff is polite and accommodating. The only issue we had was that the food options at the restaurant are a bit limited and the place is quite far from the mall; so options outside are limited as well. We used to take a taxi for INR 200 (one-way) to take us to the lift that goes up to the mall. But it is a bit expensive to shell out 400 every day to go to and come back from the mall. Otherwise it was a peaceful and restful stay for us at this reasonably priced heritage property.

Good Place to stay with family

I am the one who love the Himachal a lot. I have Visited Manali, Kangra etc in my previous trips. This time a made a plan of Shimla as it is capital of Himachal and Toy Train. I selected this resort to stay after the many research and review. It's have been a very wonderful stay in this resort. Their hospitality is good. The View of valley from the resort looks awesome. Rooms and Food qualities are also very good too.. Nice place to stay here with my family. I am happy to stay here.

Palatial yet low key

I stayed two nights at Springfield's in Fall 2015. I was lucky to have the rear first floor room with glass French doors that open into the Garden. As it was not the season for Shimla, there were only two others staying there and I loved the peace and quiet. Above all though, the view from the garden takes your breath away. I was up early to see the sunrise.
The food was quickly prepared and very tasty.
Do not book a room at Springfield's expecting a modern hotel with every amenity and the latest decor. It is a century old house reminiscent of the British Raj, with enough updating that it retains it's beauty and makes you grateful for being able to enjoy it.
The owner and his wife were gracious hosts and the staff will be at your beck and call

Quite pricey for the quality

The Springfield's is in a quite nice house. With a very nice garden.
But the price is quite high for the room's quality. You can have good 4* hotels for alf the price.
Furthermore, the location in Booking.com is wrong and the hotel is quite fa from the Mall.

Springfields brought good luck to us

abhinawprasad on 28/07/2017 06:54

For us the trip to Springfields, Shimla was a memorable one. We had gone there with a mission – our son was to appear for the JEE Advanced on 21 May, 2017 and we had taken Shimla as center to escape the heat of Delhi weather and that of the pre-exam stress.
Springfields proved to be the perfect getaway from all the Delhi heat, competition and madness.
It is a boutique ancestral royal property converted to a hotel. The entire place had an aura of royal grandeur including the furnishings and fittings.
Our 1st room no. 8 was at the rear opening up to the garden and with the valley view. It was separate from other rooms like an outhouse, very cozy and with lot of privacy. I think that is the best room for peace , study & soul searching.( though food got cold by the time it was brought due to the distance from the main kitchen.)
The gardens at the back were beautiful and serene with lots of fresh air ,where in the early morning we used to sit and do deep breathing and meditation. The garden was over the cliff and looked upon down the green valley. We could view the mountains in the distance where the sun rose. It is difficult to find such peace in the midst of all the crowd & noise.
Room no. 1 and 2 were huge and connected (though being close to the main door, it was noisy during the sleep time, with people coming , going and talking).
Room no. 1 is a suite with additional space for dining & sitting – nice cosy place for conversations with food.
The owner is Kunwar Vijay Singh and his wife who run the place, both very charming and nice to talk to, though we could not spend much time with them as we were busy with the exam preparation.
Food was reasonably priced , hygienic and fresh compared to the neighbouring eating places. The breakfast was very good – freshly cooked and homemade – less of oil. , was prepared fresh – our favourite was mushroom cheese toast. It is best to reach the breakfast area early so as to give them enough time to cook, otherwise then it becomes difficult to cater to every table and later the service become slow. At dinner time, we were hungry for some dessert. So, on our request, the cook made some Atta Halwa which was off the menu, and was delicious.
Monkeys are a great menace in a hilly terrain like Shimla. The staff scared them away without an effort. (Don’t disturb the monkeys and they won’t, either.) And we were advised to keep the windows closed as the windows did not have grills .
We will definitely go back to Springfields and highly recommend them to our family & friends.
Must say the place and the royal couple’s wishes proved to be lucky for our son – he cleared his JEE Advanced with rank 2028. And of all the places , is going back to IIT Mandi, Himachal Pradesh for his college (which is the fastest growing amongst the new IITs).
