I loved every moment at Hotel Barken. From the friendly welcome and help from SOPHIA at Reception to the cold beer on the deck at sunset. Never felt like a Viking. The breakfast was best on the tour. My room made me want to stay longer. SARuntoer 2017.

This is a great place for the boat loving people, the place looks amazing, the room was perfect for a lone traveler like me, breakfast was nice and Swedish:)
It's really easy to get there from the town center, max 5 minutes walk to anything you need, and the staff was really nice and helpful:)

I booked a twin room so that I could visit my son who is studying in Gothenburg and so that he could join me in the hotel. Check in was very efficient and the staff explained everything I needed to know. The room was on the small side but I fully expected this given that it is a cabin on a ship. The beds were very comfortable and the room was everything I could have expected. One surprise was how good the shower was. The breakfasts were of limited choice but plenty to eat to fill you up for the day ahead. My one note of concern was that the room I was located in (222) was directly below the breakfast buffet and consequently, I heard footsteps above from about 6am onwards. Prior to that time, the sleep was very peaceful. The ship is well located for all the main transport hubs being about a 10 min walk away. I would recomend this hotel especially for it being so querky but would suggest a room above the restaurant.

While visiting Göteborg we decided to stay at the Hotell Barken Viking.
How many times can you say you stayed on a boat, not just any boat but a historic four masted steel barque built in 1906 and now in the pride of place in the harbour.
This is a very unique experience and you should try it if you get the chance. Your walking balance may be a little off internally due to the floor curvature of the boat but you will sleep comfortably.

Reception friendly and attentive. Comfortable room once we adjusted to ship’s sloping floor. Unconventional wardrobe space - a wheeled hanging-rail, with, though, enough hangers for just about every stitch of clothing we had with us.
Buffet breakfast first class but, being late September, bar and restaurant not open beyond lunchtime.
Interesting, quiet location. Lilla Bommen tram/bus stops 3/4 mins walk; Train/bus stations 10 mins walk, mainly undercover via overpass and Nordstan shopping centre. If your Gothenburg arrival point is train or bus station, then walk to Barken Viking - the short-trip taxi fare is exorbitant.
