What People are saying

Dilapidated and dirty

Kuo-Ching888 on 24/10/2017 13:34

Large spiders in their webs greeted us as we entered the room. Curtain valances hanging off their fitting. A sofa ill placed to watch anything! We did try to move the sofa to a user friendly position but the dirt underneath it was disgusting. Dirty floor, walls, windows, furniture and bathroom.

We booked and paid for a double bed yet were only provided with twin beds pushed together.

I would avoid staying at this place as it is not worth the £95.00 a night that they charged us which was an absolute rip off. I strongly recommend that you stay somewhere else.

A relaxed gem of a hotel in the countryside

Over the past 4 years my wife and I have visited this hotel on 4 occasions. On one of those occasions we arrived as fiancees and left as husband and wife. We first visited for a Valentine's meal in 2014, we then got married at the hotel on May 4th 2014. We returned the year after for a meal and finally returned again this week for a short stay at the hotel. On each occasion we found the staff charming and helpful; the food delicious and beautifully presented and the accommodation clean and inviting. The restaurant is of particular note. It is decorated in a charming almost medieval style in keeping with the age of the oldest parts of the building. Soft music usually plays in the background and it is without doubt one of the most relaxing places to eat that we have come across. Our most recent stay represented excellent value for money at £109 for a large well appointed room, exquisite three course evening meal and well cooked and presented breakfast for the two of us.

If you are thinking of getting married at the hotel you won't be disappointed. With plenty of rooms for your guests, a lovely setting for the ceremony and reception and a charming and helpful wedding planner (Hayley) into the bargain. Our wedding day was all we had hoped for and more.

The various parts of the building come from a variety of periods but all are sympathetically designed to blend with one another.

I cannot think of anything to fault in the quality of service provided and recommend you give it a try soon.

We are about to re-locate outside Kent but look forward to staying at Howfield Manor on our return trips to Kent.

Great setting

I booked in for 1 night, but on my arrival needed to stay for two. The reception staff were very helpful and accommodating and managed to sort me out.

My room was warm, clean, and had everything I needed, including free wifi.

As can be deduced from the name, it is a old manor house that has been converted to a hotel. So it is a bit like a rabbit warren, up and down stairs, no lift, but I think this adds character to the venue and does not detract from it in any way.

The gardens are well kept and I had a lovely conversation with one of the friendly garden staff.

Delightful staff

The staff in this hotel were amazing when my business booking hadn't been made and they were completely full when I arrived. They instantly took charge and found me another quality place to stay locally although it was nearly 10pm. The staff also arranged for me to return for breakfast the next morning before our business meeting. That too was handled very professionally and willingly. As others have stated the atmosphere reflects on the kindness and professionalism of the staff. Although I didn't stay overnight I can say the grounds are well maintained with many beautiful plants even in this early autumn visit. Thank you staff.

Lovely location

This old manor house is set in charming grounds. The building is very old and the ceilings are low and the stairs squeaky, very atmospheric and really in keeping with the age of the building, we like quirky! The rooms were spacious and very clean. Breakfast was a choice of cereals, fruits and then cooked food which was well prepared and certainly set you up for the day ahead. The staff member that we met (Mary, I think her name was) was very friendly and helpful.

All in all a great place to stay near Canterbury, I would recommend it.
