What People are saying

No heating or hot water

This_treacle_pieon 15/11/2017 22:54

We stayed here because it was the only option left in Aboyne to use as accommodation for a nearby wedding. It is not this historic traditional hotel the description says, it is tired and tacky which is a real shame for such a lovely building.

Bad points - We waited 15 minutes for the receptionist to appear to check us in despite ringing the bell a number of times. He had been upstairs putting heaters on the rooms because there was no hot water or heating. The receptionist said he would book us a taxi to the wedding. When we arrived for it, it wasn’t there because he had forgotten. The room was freezing at night. There was a hole in the wall in the bathroom that hadn’t been repaired.
Good points - the manager at breakfast service was very good. Breakfast was fine. The hotel was actually very clean. We got a discount and they apologised.

I stayed here for a wedding nearby so did not use the restaurant. Room was comfortable enough and appears to be fairly recently painted. There was a sink in the room left over from the 70s which is unusual nowadays, presumably from before the ensuite was added.
The breakfast was a pretty standard buffet , no problems here. Staff were fine especially the chef who came out to check the buffet.

We won't be visiting again

The ONLY decent thing about our stay was the bed and the close proximity to Braemar for the Highland Games. The hotel needs more than a little TLC, It was noisy, breakfast was awful and the staff unpleasant.

Social Visit

The hotel was dreary and in need of repairs and updating. The cold water tap in the room has a constant drip and the TV didn’t work. There was no resident bar and the staff would not open the bar after 23.00hrs for a late arrival of a group of approximately 12 people - not even for an hour, which would have raised their profits. I did not feel welcome or comfortable there and most disappointed the place.
The only good point is that everywhere was clean.

Lunch

Ordered sandwiches with coffee. When it was served on a Hugh plate with large salad, coleslaw and large amount of crisps. Served by a very pleasant chef. The Lounge was cosy and warm. Toilets spotless also warm.
