What People are saying

Not great

Mobilespanners on 19/11/2017 21:33

Hotel interior stank of sewage and smoke, room air conditioning didn’t work, hair dryer didn’t work, just not great. We left a night early and went to a different hotel. We tried to talk to a member of staff about it but she rolled her eyes and wasn’t interested.. we had to sleep with the windows open but the noise from the car park over night meant we got woken up repeatedly. We stayed at 2 other ibis hotels during our touring in Spain and France and both were much better. I wouldn’t recommend or stay here again..

Two night stay

We have used IBIS's a few times and know what to expect. For a budget hotel this one is more than adequate. However we do have a few gripes. The rooms we and my nephew stay in absolutely stunk of cigarettes. In fact the bathroom sink in our room had 2 cigarette burns!. We did see a couple smoking with the window open. I made a complaint and the staff put an electric room fragrance in for a few hours which made no difference.
Also breakfast. We felt for nearly €8 each it was quite expensive for a continental. And very little choice.
We will continue to use this chain of hotel because they are great value and on the whole clean.

For one night only

The things to be approved: the smell in corridors is disgusting, like the smokers were smoking there years on end.
The room: the carpet should be changed coz the smell of it is awful.
Breakfast: please, clean cutlery in a proper way!
Staff: please, do not allow staff to smoke on a terrace where your guests are sitting!
Thank you!

Valencia &IBIS Alfafar - Not so sure?l...

I am going to chalk up my adventures experienced while trying to arrive to most of my hotel destinations in Spain 🇪🇸 to the lack of adequate map software for my new Garmin GPS. When I return to visit, I will have maps of Europe purchased through Garmin installed on my GPS as opposed to a bicyclist-oriented 🚴 map of Spain.

Alas, when I finally arrived to the IBIS Alfafar location in Valencia frontier visiting Cartagena, I almost had a Spanish woman and her passenger in the rear seat of my vehicle. I was approaching Calle Alcalde José Puertes from the north. Since the hotel is an immediate right after you exit the highway, you have to be REALLY careful, and I was. I turned on my directional even before I left the exit and I was at a "crawling" speed. Still, the woman almost played "bumper cars" with my vehicle.

Once I parked the car in IBIS's free, secure parking area (a very nice hotel perk), I did not move it until I was ready to leave for Barcelona 2 days later.

Unfortunately, the young girl at the reception desk was not entirely helpful with respect to providing information regarding the general area of the hotel. When I asked her for a map, she could not immediately find one. And, the map she provided was a map of the center of Valencia. She did point out that IBIS Alfafar was not on the map.

I brought my things to the room and got situated. This IBIS was typical -- nice, clean space; clean bathroom; comfortable, large (queen size) bed. It was atypical in that the breakfast buffet was included in the price of the hotel. On the downside however, there was an industrial carpet on the floor. Who would imagine that in the land where the Moors were ingenious in many aspects of their architecture and used tile (virtually everywhere) to maximize its cooling properties that there would be industrial carpet on the hotel room floor? (At least, IBIS Málaga Centro and, where I am now, IBIS Barcelona Meridiana use laminate wood flooring and certainly not industrial carpet. I hope the same for IBIS Madrid Aeropuerto, where I am going next.)

The other not so positive, room-related issue was that the standing water in the sink smelled like sewage. The smell was no constant, but often enough. The TV also could have used some updating. (I don't watch TV often while staying at a hotel, but, as mentioned in previous reviews, I do like to catch-up on world news and markets, as well as fútbol ⚽️, if it is on. Oh, I forgot to mention that the AC seemed to barely function. If it weren't for taking a shower then sleeping in my "skivvies", I might not have been able to sleep comfortably.

After I had done some research and mapped out a plan, I went down to the reception desk and asked the young lady in Spanish where I could catch the bus into downtown. When she looked up from her cell phone, she replied, "In front of Burger King...". Well, I walked to Burger King and there was no bus stop there. Since I was hungry, I stopped into VIPS to have a meal, which was quite good at a moderate price. I inquired there and the young lady told me the stop was in front of KFC. After I finished my meal, I verified that the stop was infact there outside of KFC and I wrote down the schedule that was posted.

By taking the bus, I learned that the yellow bus line was used more for the outskirts of the city and the red bus line for the center of the city. It took a little bit to figure out and having the ability to speak Spanish was more than helpful. But, I was able to take the yellow bus line to the center of Valencia. Then, I took the Red #3 bus to the port area. The Red #2 bus also went to the port area, but it made more stops. I reversed the process to get back to the hotel. I did this on a Sunday and the bus schedule was limited and actually stopped at 5 p.m. going back towards IBIS Alfafar. So, be careful.

So, weighing the positives and "not so positives", I'm torn as to whether I can strongly recommend this IBIS location. You be the judge...
