This place is nothing short of sensational in every way . As a few of the posts state, Luigi is absolutely beautiful and a true, old fashioned Italian gent. He is beautifully mannered , helpful and genuinely charming.Franca is also gorgeous. Grassina is a great location for Tuscany. Pisa a bit less than one and a half hours away and if you can manage it, fit in Lucca in the same day, truly beautiful. We stayed in the Camino apartment which is located across from the office, so our wifi was ok, but they do state that the best reception is around the office, so grab your iPad and park yourself at the outdoor tables nearby and you'll be fine. The apartment was brilliant. Spacious, well maintained , clean. Kitchen well equipped to cook for yourself. It's only a few minutes drive into Grassina to pick up goods at the supermarket (called Co-op in Italy) which is beautifully stocked with all manner of goods. You won't be left wondering. The pool is sensational and the surrounding views are gorgeous. We made a bit of a habit of going for a shop with the kids, picked up our goods, cooked dinner and went for a swim. We had to have a larger car as we were travelling with three kids and luggage so if I had to make a recommendation it would be to only get a car big enough to do the job, the smaller the better as some of the streets in Grassina are a little tight- not insurmountable, we had a Passat wagon and it was tight at times. There is also a great Italian pastry / cafe , the last shop on the right out of Grassina (called Roberto's I think??). We walked down to the village centre and caught the bus into Florence , half hour bus ride. Half an hour to the chianti region. There could not be a better place to stay for exploring this region. We stayed 5 days and all our kids wept when we left !!!!

We had a lovely time at our appartment. The hire car helped and the location was convenient yet quiet. The only down side were the ferocious insects. I counted Id been bitten120 times after two days reading by the pool. When I asked for advice we were given 2 plug ins to deter the mosquitoes. Shame these weren't given as standard.

We were beyond amazed with our stay at Borgo Bottaia! This was a quaint holiday house several apartments, but not a lot (which was why I booked it). Very spacious accommodations and property had breathtaking views from every inch! Luigi was wonderful, warm, accommodating and gave us great recommendations. We stayed only 4 days, not long enough. We took one day to relax and enjoyed the pool, views, trails near the house and amazing sunset, while we did our laundry and hung clothes under the Tuscan sun. We could not have asked for more and would love to return!
We did NOT have a car, thus the Tuscany portion of our Italy trip seemed difficult but this location was perfect. We took a cab from Firenze train station ($30 euro) which I would recommend to get there initially. It is 900 meters from Grassina but another probably 900 meters to the bus stop, and it is uphill and gravel the last part so lugging our suitcase (while small) would not have been ideal. It was about a 20 minute walk into town, then a 30-45 minute bus ride into the city center, so very doable for a Tuscan retreat but easy access to Florence. Grassina is a sleepy commuter city, there is a coop but odd hours, and the 2 restaurants in town were 1-pizza and the other was closed for a birthday party (fortunately they let us to take out pasta) so I would highly recommend bringing food/ beverages if you don't have a car.
Amazing location close to Florence but you feel worlds away in this quiet and calm holiday house!
Great Place to stay

This is a really nice set of villas to stay at and use as a base for visiting Florence & the surrounding areas. Got the bus in Florence, so avoided car parking. Then used hire car for travelling around various vineyards and Festivals - the best was the Jousting at Arezzo.
The villa was clean tidy & F.A.B. views
BUT - we went in mid Sept & got nailed by the mossies
