Remote and Lovely Stay

Mom1002on 27/07/2017 16:47

This lodge was so different from our other "bush" lodge stays. The island is accessed by boat and it is the most lovely piece of land. Most of the rooms are located right on the water and they all have wonderful decks. I enjoyed my morning coffee on our deck every day while watching birds and monkeys. The food at this unique lodge was good, although it would have been nice to have some snacks available at the bar. Speaking of the bar...it was rarely staffed. An hour before dinner, we always like to have a cocktail, but the staff was busy cooking dinner. I think the staff could use a little hospitality training, but other than that they were completely helpful. Our party of 16 took over the whole lodge which was great for family bonding. The rooms were surprisingly luxurious and there are many improvements being made (new showers being installed, new generator).

Our guide took us for a two hour walk through the village outside the property and we got to see the hospital and the school. Really cool experience on this island!

Way off the beaten path

You get to this lodge by boat, through reedy waterways - about a 20 minute cruise. You pass homes and villages that time hasn't touched, then you arrive at this beautiful lodge on the banks of the water near where the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers meet. The reception and common area of this thatched roof lodge is built around a huge baobob tree, giving it a true Africa atmosphere. We sat in the lobby and watched the vervet monkeys forage in the trees, and egrets and large monitor lizards scour the grassy shore for food. The rooms are separate cabins, reasonably well appointed, though no blow dryer. The beds were comfortable and the showers had plenty of hot water (provide by propane fueled heaters). The rooms had a wall of mosquito netting to protect the bed area, but we still had to use the hotel-provided Doom and Peaceful Sleep sprays to minimize being bitten. We were there in winter, but only needed regular clothing. We slept with the louvers open and enjoyed a nice cool cross breeze in the morning. We were escorted back to our rooms at night, as hippos, whose grunts we could hear all day long, sometimes come ashore and graze their garden at night. The meals were very good, though I could have done without the officious lady who interrupted dining conversations by loudly tapping a glass to announce each course of the meal - I suggest a blackboard, lady. This is a great spot to enjoy a cultural experience versus the safari experience. We took walking tours into the nearby villages, and went on river rides to see the amazing array of birds, spot an occasional hippo and crocodile, and of course, the spectacular sunsets. Nice spot for about 3 days.

Relaxing and wonderful staff

I loved this place; not only was it a relaxing setting, but the tiger fishing was fun (although I was not successful in catching one) and the river cruising was enjoyable. The staff was great and the food was good. Loved hearing from the locals about their experience in gaining independence.

A little piece of heaven on earth!

We saw an advert in the Go Magazine and decided to take a spontaneous trip up to Kasane to see the Victoria Falls and stay over at Kaza Safari Lodge. From the vehicle transfer to the jetty...to the boat ride to the lodge, we were treated like royalty. I have never experienced such excellent service and we were only there for one day and one night. On arrival we were greeted by the most friendliest staff and briefed in detail on how things work at the lodge. We were also treated to the most delicious food. Staff provided excellent service and were always closeby for any assistance we needed. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a private, peaceful getaway....experience heaven on earth and visit Kaza Safari Lodge. You will be seeing us again in the future.

Nice Lodge!

We stayed 3 nights at Kaza as part of a 17 day safari in Southern Africa. As we approached the lodge by boat I was very excited to see the cabins along the river. We were assigned, however to cabin #1 which was not on the river (also cabin #2) and had no view except for a thicket of trees and tall grass. It was much warmer (there was no breeze) and we experienced a lot more insects than those staying in cabins 3 through 8. We were with a group of friends and there was a great difference in their experience because of the accommodations. We spent our free time sitting in the Lodge because it was so much more pleasant. That being said, the staff was efficient and the food was very good. Evening meals were enjoyable and the ambiance was excellent. We enjoyed our fishing trip with Robson.
