Great place to stay for touring Southeastern Chester County. Nice rooms, good restaurant, substantial complimentary do-it-yourself breakfast. Beautiful surroundings. Close to Longwood Gardens, Brandywine Battlefield, West Chester, shopping. Less than an hour to Wilmington, DE, Lancaster County.

Enjoyed our Stay Near Longwood Gardens

This is a well known hotel, with an equally well known restaurant on site. We chose to stay here because of past visits, and enjoyed our stay. There were three of us traveling, a couple and a single (Mom), so we booked two rooms. When we checked in, the couple (us) was given the Presidential Suite, which looks just as you see it in the photos posted here. But renovations are coming.

The room was lovely, with a "hunt country" kind of a theme, a big jetted tub (the reason we were in the room we were in), a sitting area, kitchenette, separate bathroom with shower, and an entry hall. Plenty of room for 2 and we invited Mom over to have some appetizers and relax before we went across the drive to dinner. The room had big windows that looked across the property to distant trees which were in good fall color, nice to see.

The style of the room had a period look to it, and the colors were dark green and muted dark red. While quite appropriate for the setting, we think if renovations are done a brighter color scheme would give the suite a boost. The lighting needs more wattage, and more lamps in the suite, especially on grey days or at night.

The bed was comfy, the TV and fridge worked fine, the bathroom was clean, we did get a chuckle out of the push button wall mounted phone between the toilet and the shower (I guess if you are the President you have to be in constant contact no matter what you are doing...!)

Others have mentioned the renovations underway. We were getting an early start, so we were not overly troubled by the renovations happening in the room next door (which the workers told us will serve as the prototype room for all the future renovations), nor by the daring roofers on the steeply pitched roof over the restaurant building. Yes, they all started work at 8 a.m., which would have been a bit much had we not already gotten up.

The breakfast which was included in the lodging price was good as far as selections and the room was comfortable. You could have hot items, cold items, or make your own waffles. No reason to go away hungry.

Longwood and the other marvelous places to visit are very nearby. All in all it was just right for our needs.

So disappointing

Our small group stayed at this hotel while visiting the excellent sights in the area. The hotel was under renovation and they gave us a room on the third floor directly above where they were replacing the roof. The workers started drilling and hammering at 7:00 a.m., giving us a wake-up call that we were not expecting. During our entire stay, the room was so noisy that we could not stay in it at all. It was a crime that the management actually put guests in this room. In addition, the only telephone in the room was a wall unit in the bathroom. They also did not provide extra toilet paper and tissues, both of which ran out during our stay.

Almost perfect....

So my wife and I stayed here a few days ago, on a Saturday. We had requested early check-in for our room. The young lady at the desk, Katelyn I believe, was most helpful. The room wasn't ready yet, but we were headed to Longwood anyway. When we arrived back around 9ish, the young man at the desk, Steven, was exceedingly rude to us. He barely spoke above a whisper and repeatedly cut my wife off. We figured this is not typical so we just left it be. When we got up to the room, it was quite nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable. We had an issue turning on the shower, so we called down and Steven answered the phone very curtly, without so much as a friendly inflection to his voice. Again, it must just be him. Later that evening, around 12am, we went to the lobby to make use of the sundry shop. Marjorie was an angel I tell ya. We kept going in and out of the shop but she smiled and made polite conversation the entire time. The rest of the night was uneventful. At breakfast the following morning, Dee was very helpful, describing everything we asked about and even helping us find some ice for our water. I highly recommend MOST of this hotel. The only sore spot of the trip was Steven.

Surprisingly good!

Ok, why "surprisingly"? Well, we expected rather mid-market comfort given the price and location in the "country". But it was perfectly lovely. Friendly and efficient staff. Large room, tasteful decoration, comfy bed, pretty grounds. Good coffee. Quiet. Full breakfast (eggs, sausage, oatmeal, fruit etc) included. Plenty of parking. And very convenient to Longwood.
