Have stayed in better Hotels for the price

I have only just started reviewing but have always chosen Hotels and Restaurants through out the world by the reviews on this site. I couldn't get in the night of the All Whites game but I was able to stay here a few nights later so because it read the best I thought it was worth a go. I had come from the Sofitel and before that the Grand Mecure, both of those Hotels had nicer rooms yet I paid $220 more to stay here in a Club Room. I didn't think it was worth it at all, I wasn't interested in the afternoon tea so guess that is built into the price , then the twilight drinks were well below par compared to other IHG Club levels in other countries. It was only cold food and nothing much to rave about at that , then talk about slow to refill your drinks , they would ignore your empty glass yet spend time fluffing up pillows. I had to ask for a refill as did other tables around me, it was like they were trying to save money or something yet it is all build into the cost big time. However it was a different story at breakfast, they couldn't do enough for you and the breakfast and service there was 7 Star ! Location is great and concierge is probably the best in N.Z, a young man named Keith was so helpful and friendly, while waiting outside for a taxi I witnessed him greeting guests as they arrived by their names which also really impressed me. He is a great asset to this Hotel !

You Can't Beat the Rooms or View

When we first arrived at the Wellington Intercontinental Hotel, we were assigned a very small "businessman's room". We knew that our American Express reservation included a junior suite, so we asked to be moved when a room became available. The hotel front desk staff realized their mistake and, when we returned from lunch, we had been moved to a junior suite overlooking the bay. They had also moved in a chest of drawers to accommodate our unpacking for three nights.

The staff at the hotel and the restaurant could not have been better. They helped us with our sightseeing, provided excellent advice on restaurants and made our stay very pleasant. The concierge (who was from Michigan!) went above and beyond in assisting us and advising us.

Poor standard for 5 star hotel

Hotel ideally located in city centre so everything walkable . Bathroom showing signs of age and poor maintenance as our toilet was damaged and missing plastic / rubber pads on underside which looked dirty. There was lots of dust on mirror and damage on work station where kettle was located.
There was no complimentary bottled water which I would expect from a 5 Star Rated Hotel Group as this hotel is not cheap to stay.
The wi-fi was poor signal with low speed and you had to log on every 30 minutes as that’s all the “free wi-if”” that in house guests could get without signing up for a package.

Great hotel and location

I like staying at Intercontinental because it's a quality product. We take the Club Lounge option, which takes care of breakfast and evening drinks. This particular lounge is very nice -- terrific view over the harbour, very good food and service. Not the hugest range of food you've ever seen, but this is Wellington so logically everything is a tad smaller.

The location is great. Really, in Wellington, pretty much any location is great -- you can walk across town in 10 minutes, so it's all good.

This is a good hotel and I recommend it. Staff were great. Executive suite was great.

Disappointing for the price

I booked three standard king rooms for our family group of five. Check-in time was 3pm and we were warmly greeted by the concierge and our car taken for parking. Unfortunately none of the rooms were available, so we waited in the bar until 4.15 when the rooms were finally ready, just in time for us to change before heading out for the evening. When we got back we enjoyed a swim in the pool but the spa wasn’t working. The room itself was good, the bed and pillows very comfortable and well appointed. The hairdryer was poor quality and it took about 20 minutes just to dry my hair! Breakfast was nice although there was a league group in and a lot of food had been exhausted by 8.45am which was disappointing given the price. We received an envelope under our door overnight with my husband’s name on it (despite the fact I’d made the booking and provided the credit card - very last century to assume the male is in charge of finances!) and opened it to find it had been mixed up with someone else’s and we were given their personal and email details (which means someone else was given ours). Very poor adherence to protecting customer privacy information. At just under $1000 for three rooms for one night I had expected a much higher level of service and attention to detail.
