It's difficult to give a high rating to a hotel in Freeport that is not on the beach! While the rooms are dated, ours was clean and very spacious. Staff are great, and if you take advantage of the free bus service to Island Sea Resort, you can get the beach experience. There are scheduled grocery runs, just be prepared for the high prices. There is also an orientation explaining some of the activities that you can participate in to enjoy the local culture.
We took advantage of the bon fire. By attending (very non-pressure) time share presentations at other locations, we were able to attend some other excursions at no cost.
While many people encourage renting a car, we found the free bus transfers and paying for taxi's to work for us. On our first day we saw two accidents, likely the result of Americans not being familiar with driving on the left hand side of the road.
Place to relax

I don't agree with another reviewer saying it's a roach motel, sure it's not the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, it's a simple hotel. I know what a roach motel is believe me I checked into one in Vallejo, California and checked out 5 minutes later. The staff are really friendly, Stacy, Nettie made us feel at home. Had some problems with the A/C but it was fixed quickly, the extra charge for electricity was $25 but reduce to $20 due to initial problem. I thought there was no wi-fi since I did not see anywhere this mentioned but there is and I clocked it to 10 Mbps download, 0.60 Mbps upload. As others mentioned there is nothing in walking distance, your better off renting a car (used my gps). Be sure to have them contact you with the tour agent Michael, he really is an all around great guy. Friendly, always concerned that you get the best experience out of your stay in the Bahamas.

It is a small resort and yes the golf club is no longer there due to hurricane. No it is nota 5 star resort, but the staff and the people make up for the rest. The first day in people made us feel at home. Michael is awesome and Stacy will do whatever she can to help make your stay comfortable. We had a blast there and you don't have to go far to do anything you want. We would stay there again, because the people are so friendly. The rooms are spacious 2 bedrooms with a full bath in both bedrooms. Kitchen is good size and the dining area and living room area. It is the only heated pool on the island. Very quiet and relaxing at the resort.
