This beautiful B&B in the historic district of Charleston was a very enjoyable place to stay. As other reviews have stated, it is a great location for easy walking to restaurants and all that Charleston offers visitors.
The staff are excellent - very friendly and helped us with reservations, making our stay memorable. They seemed sincerely interested in us and making our stay a wonderful experience. This was an anniversary trip and we were greeted with a bottle of champagne in our room for this. The room we stayed in (#8) was large with the most comfortable hotel bed I have slept in. The only concern for some could be the stairs. We were on the third floor and there is no elevator. This was not a problem at all for us, but it could be for some, so just make sure you ask for a ground floor room in the carriage house if stairs are an issue.
I would stay there again and wish our visit could have been longer.

Former mansion /residence of John Rutledge, Governor Of South Carolina converted into a charming bed and breakfast Inn with two additional Carriage houses in the back.
Friendly and helpful concierge and front desk.
Breakfast was fine, if not slow, served at your choice of in room, outdoor courtyard or indoor Tea room. Nice touches-in room newspaper, free bottled water, pre dinner drinks and finger foods, relaxing outdoor sitting area. Walking distance to all major Historic areas, 3-4 blocks from the water and Battery South, yet feels like a residential area. Only 1-2 blocks from the truly charming residences and the upscale shopping on King Street. Walking distance to many restaurants and all are very good. Safe neighborhood, friendly housekeeping staff too.

Absolutely amazing place to stay in Charleston. Around the corner from the best restaurants, and gorgeous rows of houses. The John Rutledge House Inn is much more than B&B, packed with amenities and unparalleled customer service. The building and rooms are grand while still intimately historical.
I️ could not recommend this Inn enough; it really was one of the highlights of our vacation to Charleston. Look forward to returning in the future.

This is lovely B&B in the historic district of Old Charleston. The inn is centrally located and easy to walk to many points of interest. It is a charming elegant, old world type f hotel. We stay in the carriage house as we have a dog which they accept. Breakfast was enjoyed in a lovely courtyard. The rooms were large and comfortable. The staff was welcoming and helpful. Nice stay.

Spent 3 nights at JRH during our first visit to Charleston. Greeted by Margo the minute we entered the lovely renovated Inn, we felt the local hospitality and interest in our well being instantly. JRH has been beautifully restored and the rooms are spacious and wonderful decorated. Breakfast (a real treat) can be served in either your room, the tree shaded outdoor patio or the ball room (glorious large space upstairs with long terrace facing out to Broad St.). We loved eating in the ballroom each morning, but if the weather was a bit warmer, the patio would have been quite enticing. In addition to Margo, Michael captained the front desk (as did one other individual) and they were all extremely pleasant and helpful and interested in our daily/nightly activities. We could not have been happier with our accommodations, and look forward to staying here again during our (most definite) next time.
