This is a comparison of the full service Hyatt Regency and JW Marriott by the Galleria. I have stayed at both these hotels often.
Rooms: The Hyatt is a newer hotel and this shows in the rooms. The JW has solid rooms too though.
Gym: Hyatt. Both have good gyms, Hyatt is slightly nicer
Club Lounge: JW. You can make a meal out of the JW's lounge whereas the Hyatt is more like small bites. Although the Hyatt has free wine/beer whereas the JW is a honor bar
Parking: JW. You have the option to self park or valet at JW. Whereas Hyatt is just valet and is expensive.
Service: Both have friendly service
Overall I prefer the JW for business trips, but when my wife comes to town with me I like to stay at the Hyatt because the hotel looks nicer and the free drinks in the lounge are more important then.

Arrived 1915 at hotel front desk personnel were efficient and congratulated us for our anniversary. On Saturday we received a bottle of Champaign as well as chocolate covered strawberries. A nice anniversary card was included and handwritten not printed.
Dihala in the Executive Lounge was outstanding from service provided to welcoming attitude. We arrived late for breakfast and she offerred to get us something to eat. Because of comitments we had to leave and did not take advantage of her offer.
Most impressive was her welcoming. We had not been there in over a year but she recognized us. Of all of the hotels that I've stayed including US, Europe & Asia her positive attitude outshines shines the staff at any of the other hotels that I've stayed.

These folks are great and almost every time we stay in Houston we stay here.
It was our anniversary and they sent up a gift for us.
The staff really goes out of their way to make you feel at home.

The staff at the JW Marriott went above and beyond for my friends and I when we stayed for a wedding this weekend! The bartenders took care of us even upon our very late arrival! Justine M., the manager on duty for the breakfast buffet, went out of her way to accommodate our larger group. She really made our trip!
The hotel room itself (a "Larger Guest Room") was very nice overall. Great bed, nice bathroom, clearly renovated or updated. It had tons of mirrors, including a full-length mirror and great lighting in the bathroom, which is important when you have several people getting ready at once! That said, the bathroom had almost no privacy. I'm talking slatted doors like you'd have on a closet, and no fan. It seems like the room may have been expanded and the closet turned into a larger bathroom. There was also no mini-bar or microwave, which aren't inherently problems, but just noting for future visitors. I'd also note that there is a surface self-parking lot that is either less expensive or free, as opposed to the underground self-parking. The front desk person didn't mention the cheaper alternative to me when I asked about parking, so just know it's there.
Overall a great stay!

The manager keeps his eye on the details. Great service, good rates and the restaurant in the lobby is very good to grab a quick bite. WIFI is a decent speed, so I was able to get plenty of work done.
