Great Place to Bunk in Keystone!

We stayed at the K Bar S Lodge the second-to-last weekend in October. It was very clean and very quiet! We requested a room with a patio that had a view of George Washington's profile and could also see Roosevelt's mug from our viewpoint. The view was worth the extra few bucks to stay in that particular room. So lovely have be able to see the Mount Rushmore from a distance at all times of the day!

The continental breakfast was nothin fancy but sooo nice to have. There were not many restaurants still open in town this time of year (we only found one) so not having to worry about finding a meal first thing in the morning was great. The continental breakfast included waffles, eggs, a breakfast meat, oatmeal, toast, hard-boiled eggs, juices, and coffee. The dining room had nice views of the hotel grounds and, if you're lucky, some wildlife. It was really nice!

The lobby has a little "store" where you can get snacks, beverages, small souveniers, and toiletries. Very handy. There is also comfortable table seating in the lobbyto play a game or eat a take-out meal while enjoying the view or watching TV. You will find hot water for coffee or tea in the lobby as well.

This property is a bit off the main road so you feel a little secluded, which I thought was nice. The room was nothing fancy but was comfortable and clean. The floors do seem thin so I agree with another review that it is smart to request an upper-level room to avoid having to listen to foot traffic from above. Luckily there weren't children or heavy walkers staying above us so noise was minimal. We requested a rollaway bed and that was really the only disappointment during our stay. It was the most uncomfortable portable bed we've ever encountered. Granted, rollaways aren't known for their comfort, but this one looked like it was from 1975, was made for someone no taller than 5-foot, and felt as if you were laying on a bed filled with popped springs. Definitely not a show-stopper, but just be aware.

Lastly, the jacuzzi is above-ground and just in the stairwell of the building. Nothing special. Minor detail, as we weren't there to soak.

Driving by many of the Keystone hotels while we were in town, it made me so glad that I was staying at the beautiful, quaint and quiet K Bar S Lodge. I would stay again!

This property is in a great location. It is so close to Mt. Rushmore you can see the profile of George Washington lit up at night. It is very convenient to the town as well but set back on a private road so that you feel as though you are staying in a cabin in the woods, very quiet and pretty with deer and other wildlife on the property. Keystone has several amenities and a few attractions such as a steam locomotive train ride and museum but many of them had closed by the time we made our trip in mid September. The lodge does not qualify as luxurious but the rooms are good sized, with all necessities though a little awkward in getting to and from the parking area. Overall a good place to stay if you like to be away from the crowd and still close to conveniences.

Great location, grounds were nice and view was great. For the price you pay I would have expected better - rooms need updating, housekeeping was hit or miss (e.g. some days wouldn't even make the bed, just threw the cover back over the bed), and I do not recommend the bar food (e.g. throwing cold refrigerator chicken on nachos). Breakfast was decent and front decks staff was great.

Very nice lodge near Mt. Rushmore

We had a king room in the main lodge, and it had a nice view of Washington's profile and the grounds, including the fire pit area. Decent choices on the TV, and provided wifi was slow. Breakfast was very good, with a large variety of choices. The staff was very nice. We traveled in October, and most of the restaurants in nearby Keystone were closed. This isn't the fault of the hotel, but a fact of life in the offseason. There were some lod revelers in the main lodge lat at night.

Great setting - a visual wonder!

The lodge is in a great setting, especially if you get a side view of Mt. Rushmore and see it lit up at night. The rooms were good size and we had 2 queens and a rollaway. All areas worked well - both air and heat and no problem with wi-fi. The grounds are very clean and lots of critters wandering around - turkeys, deer, etc. There is also some good rock climbing. The breakfast was very good but nothing for dinner as the bar area seemed closed while we were there - granted it was late in the season. Outdoor fire pit is quite nice. Staff was great and nothing was too much to ask for.
