Great Hostel

In the best posible location in viña del mar, couple blocks away from the bus terminal, couple blocks away the metro and in the main plaza de Viña del Mar. Really helpful and nice receptionist, clean bathrooms, with possibility to drink in one area but separated of the quiet side to rest and sleep. They have touristic info and all the recommendations about party and bohemian life of viña and valparaiso. Amazing place.
Worst hostel ever!!

Nobody informed us there was going to be a party that lasted till 6:00 am. There was a lot of noise all the time. Toilets and showers were dirty, people were vomitting and every toilet seat had vomit on it.
Staf was not helpfull, guy dissapeared to get change ... that we never saw.
Stay away during summer if you are not a horny teenager!!!
Best Hostel in Viña del Mar

This is a hostel you will never forget! A place you always want to return to :-) Why?Columba Hostel is in the center of Viña del Mar nearby all the bars and nearby the beach. The hostel is clean, the wifi is very good and breakfast is included! But the main reason are the staff and the lovely new owner Carola. They really make a difference. They make you feel at home. If you are a big fan of surfing the guys that work here will gladly take you to Concon. So if you are looking for a really nice place with Good Vibes only go to Columba Hostel. You won't regret it!
Beware

The rooms were actually quite good and there seemed to be a lot of security (cameras, a bracelet required to enter the hostel)
All the same, we went out for lunch and someone broke into our locker in the meanwhile. They had taken it all: passports, cameras and iPhones.
A total nightmare.
Upon looking at the security footage we saw the robber go straight into our room and straight to our locker, which made us believe he was working with the staff. How else would he know where exactly we kept our stuff?
Beware.
Overpriced Hostel with Zero Privacy

The bf and I stayed in the matrimonial ensuite. At first glance, we were a bit underwhelmed but it seemed okay. We quickly realized there was little privacy since the doors offer no sound insulation whatsoever. You can literally hear EVERYTHING. It doesn't have to be someone/thing loud. As such, our "relaxing" weekend was rather sleepless.
We payed extra to have a private bathroom but it was a closet so we chose to use the shared bathroom. Please save yourself the trouble and stick to the shared bathroom.
The wifi was also terrible. I think I had wifi for like 20 minues and that's it. No amount of resetting the router or my iPhone worked. I get it if they do no have wifi available but please say that or fix it!
Other details that were a disappointment
- Little security: the main door is not locked and no one bothers to check if you're actually a guest at the hostel
- At breakfast there was only 1 working toaster which meant waiting forever to make toast
- They do not have a wine bottle opener. Really? This is Chile. One of the workers handed us a screw hook to use, which some other guests had used previously.
We really expected more out of the hostel for the price we payed. It's got a great location, the bed was cozy, and they offer a later a check-out than most hostels. But, these things are really not worth it. OVERPRICED.
