Just come back from two weeks at the Katathani hotel. Loved the hotel and had really relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Stayed in the Thani wing in a junior suit. Room overlooked the beach and the rolling and crashing waves were a lovely experience. It is a large hotel, but the Thani wing is very close to the beach and pools and well as the main restaurant and therefore it does not feel large. Plenty of room, not crowded and bags of space for everybody at all times. Staff were excellent all had smiles on their face and a genuine wish to help. Food was very good all round. We eat at the main restaurant, the fish restaurant as well as the Italian restaurant and finally the shore restaurant - all were good. However I would not particularly recommend taking half board simply because you might not feel like a large meal every night. There are some good restaurants 50 yards away from the entrance that offered good food at a reasonable price. One of the features of the hotel is that it is directly on Kata Noi beach. This is a public beach but he hotel takes a very active stance in keeping the beach clean with cleaners on the beach every day, similarly the hotel is spotless with staff even brushing the lawns and paths constantly during the day. We called in on a number of hotels whilst picking other people up for trips and we were very pleased with our choice of hotel. Great location, brilliant staff and a great hotel all round. You might find swisher hotels, but the genuine welcome and location made this a great choice and we would definitely have no hesitation in booking again.

Great Hotel but a filthy beach!!!

I recently stayed at the Katathani for my third time. The hotel grounds are beautiful, the rooms are large and well appointed and the staff for the most part was very friendly. The free breakfast is excellent and happy hour at sunset at all of the bars is terrific. This all being said the beach is gross. Trash everywhere, there was even a tire on the beach for my last four days. I alerted the management of the dirty beach and they argued with me that they do clean the beach and that the rain caused the dirty beach. I was there six days and saw no rain. My suggestion is they put two employees on full time beach clean up. I didn't get to enjoy the beach on my beach vacation and I am disappointed. I will not return to the Katathani.

Great place for kids!

Our family stayed here for a week in June. We stayed in the Bhuri wing, close to kids club and playgrounds. The little one loved the kids club, it was very clean with lots to do and we also were lucky to be there for the opening of the new water playground. Everyone enjoyed it very much. Overall we were satisfied with all the facilities, especially the pools and restaurants. One thing worth noting is that the games room had most machines out of order on the few occasions we visited it. Not a big deal but just something for management to note and potentially fix in the future.
We stayed in the grand deluxe room, the view wasn't great, however the room itself was clean and spacious. It was great to be able to have sliding doors separating the kids bed/play area and our bedroom/balcony. After reading some comments on here about Bhuri wing being outdated, I was a bit concerned, but likely we ended up in one of the renovated rooms so it was nice.
One of the issues we encountered during our stay was that the room next to us was being renovated and it was noisy for a day or two. Normally wouldn't matter however our daughter still naps during the day and she was not able to fall asleep. We contacted the front desk about it and was told we will get a call back about it but never did.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and have already recommended this resort to our friends. Would definitely come back again.

relax, swim, massage, walk, eat.....

Last week we spent eight glorious days at Katathani Beach Resort. The two of us are middle aged women travelling together from Australia for a relaxing holiday where we could swim, eat, walk and have massages when we wanted one, but above all to relax. Katathani Phuket Beach Resort delivered on that and more!

At first I expected the weather at this time of year to be grey and wet, but still hot. However, I was very pleasantly surprised that during our stay there were only two days when it rained at all and that certainly did not interrupt anything we planned to do. In fact on the Tuesday we were there a big tropical storm blew up in the mid afternoon which began just after we arrived back at our room after lunch. We were therefore able to watch the entire thunder storm from the relative dryness and safety of our balcony and when the wind and rain blew too much we went inside to watch in air conditioned comfort.

The resort is really great with wonderfully friendly and helpful staff everywhere who go out of their way to make your holiday pleasant and enjoyable.

The six swimming pools are amazing and it is great to be able to try each one and to enjoy the differences between their design, location and atmosphere.

The six restaurants are also really very good quality and we especially enjoyed our dinners at the Fisherman's Wharf, La Scala and Chanadda Royal Thai. Chom Talay was okay, if you like buffet restaurants, but not as good as the others. I actually do not really enjoy buffets but I noticed plenty of parents and children who did.

Breakfast at Seacret and Chom Talay were fine with quite a wide choice. The fruit and eggs cooked any way you want were great, but bacon a bit hit and miss and Thai tomatoes are not really enjoyable.

The grounds are expansive with great lawns, lots of trees and bushes and some flowers. As this is a very large resort, there is certainly quite a lot of walking involved. We stayed in the Bhurri wing and most restaurants are in the Thani wing which is about a 10 minute walk away. However, the walking is good exercise and mostly we did not mind it at all.

At the end of the resort farthest from the Bhurri wing is a beautiful, almost secret, garden. Make sure that you walk there and see it. The water feature, fountains, bridge and gardens are truly restful and pleasing to sit in and could be so easily overlooked if you do not fully explore the resort from one end to the other.

We did a number of activities during our eight days, including aqua aerobics, massages, Petanque, visit to Patong and one to the Saturday/Sunday market and lots and lots of swimming, reading and talking to other guests. But one unforgettable activity for us was participating in the World Environment Day Kata Noi Beach cleanup on 5 June. This was a very enjoyable and positive experience for us, as guests, but also for local school children and staff and volunteers. Thank you for the opportunity to be involved.

While neither of us travelled with children, many people do, and while we were there the resort opened a new children's aqua park. It is brilliant! It certainly made me wish to bring my grandchildren next time, just so I can have the opportunity to go in there with them. The activities, swimming areas and kid's clubs for children and teenagers are very good and I could certainly recommend Katathani Beach Resort as an excellent, enjoyable and safe destination to take your family.... especially an extended family with grandparents, parents and children. However, simultaneously it is an excellent resort for a romantic getaway with the opportunity to find many quiet places to just be together.

Overall, I thoroughly recommend Katathani Phuket Beach Resort and I will definitely consider another trip there in the next couple of years.

Great Family Oriented resort for a relaxing holiday.

We visited during May/June 2017. We specifically asked for a ground floor room due to my wife's breathing disability. The room was very nice and suited our needs well. As she can't walk far the room only had one step to get in (quite ok), but if we had floors above this would have also been acceptable as there was a good size lift. Also, it was no trouble to get around the resort and 6 restaurants as they were all wheelchair accessible.
The resort occupied the whole beach and, even though it is a public beach, there was little or no general public or tourists that seemed to use it - only resort guests. Lots of pure white sand down to the water at high and low tides meant it could be extensively used by everyone. Crystal clear warm water with small waves meant easy access for all ages.
The resort has 6 restaurants and we tried 3 of them - the breakfast/ evening buffet Chom Talay was very efficient and had some of the freshest and best tasting / cooked dishes that I have eaten in any resort. I even say that they were full of taste and moist - unlike the majority of other resort buffets in our experience. The Fisherman's Wharf restaurant was also very good (look for the Friday night special set menu offer) and the other Italian style casual dining restaurant had the best tasting lightly topped Pizzas outside of Rome that I have tried (but nothing like the heaped on Pizzas of Sydney !).
We spent 8 nights there and ate outside twice- at a slightly lower price - but nowhere near the Katathani quality. Meal prices were also quite reasonable overall (more than outside but offered good value for money).
The resort is vast (at least 300 metres long (same as the beach !)). and has extensive extremely well kept grounds so it is a pleasure to rest and relax around the huge number of deck chairs and 5 or 6 pools. The area was swept every morning and the Coconut palms were trimmed and pruned whilst we were there with NO noise at 6.00 - 7.00am every day. They cleaned up and were gone without most of the guests being any the wiser. I sent some photos home and my son accused me of taking them off Google as they made the resort look so good. Have a look for yourself !
We have a powered scooter for my wife and she could easily get around the whole resort by herself with no assistance. However, the staff were always willing to assist at any time.
Negatives ?? Nothing from the resort, it is fine but, having extensively visited Thailand and, in particular Phuket, a number of times I feel that I was ripped of with the Tuk Tuk taxi prices outside the resort. 500 Baht ($Au20.00) to Patong was significantly higher than it should have been. I think equal to the same cost for the distance in Sydney !!
Also, there are a number of shops in the resort. These shops offer good value for money with soft drink and beer prices (as well as trinkets) equal to or LESS than I could get things outside.
I liked the resort and I liked the peace and quiet as well as the rooms. Would we go back? - maybe ..... but it is well suited for families with children. They would love it !!
