Very friendly and helpful host, lovely historic house in convenient location to Richmond. Comfortable large room, good off street parking, wifi and delicious breakfast. Recommended for those staying in the area.

Very nice Older home located in a mostly residential part of town. Parking a bit tight but we were the only ones there so not a problem. The room was large, the bed Comfortable, it had AC! Decent bath. Breakfast was good and cooked to order. Coffee was good. Nice one night stay.

I am not sure what other accommodations are available in the area but as others had written this was average in comparison to the other boutique accommodations we stayed in during our travels to both north and south island. The rooms themselves were not disappointing but the traffic on the main road outside the door certainly was not quaint. The host was very friendly but it did seem like we were just his friends that stopped by the house - no effort to put on shoes or a collared shirt. As a suggestion to other travelers if you need to stay in Richmond this certainly is a viable option, but we didn't find anything in particular that we had to stay in the town for. On a positive side - breakfast was excellent and their sweet dog was more than happy to be pet out in the garden.

It seems we were staying at a different venue to other reviewers as this was the worst place we stayed in our 23 day tour of New Zealand. We stayed two nights . Our room was small and on the ground floor near the front door and we had noise from the road especially early in the morning. Our host must have had an off day as he we felt he wasn't bothered if we were there or not. He didn't offer us any tea or a map of the area .We had to ask him lots of questions rather than him offering them. (Every one of our other hosts was welcoming and really made us feel at home).
It was the little things we noticed compared to other places we stayed. There were no tea bags to make tea and milk that had been spilt in the fridge on the first afternoon was still there the morning we left. The cereal was stale and teapot spout was brown stained. Crockery was left out all the time so felt dusty . Silver cutlery was tarnished and tainted the food. Wet room was spacious but shower temp really hard to control.
These things may sound petty but it stood out like a sore thumb compared to all the other places we stayed. On a positive note. Beds were reasonably comfortable. Cooked breakfast was ok. So for some people who are looking for more basic accommodation Kershaw would suffice, however if you're used to staying in Boutique lodges with that extra something then we suggest you look elsewhere.

Our room was small, but comfortable. We were beside a busy road, but the traffic noise died down by nightfall. Good breakfast. Accommodation quite a distance from the centre of Nelson. Host's father has a restaurant in Nelson and arranged free transport there and back for us. Dinner was good.
