What People are saying

Better than expected!

We got a free pickup from the airport. The pickup was right at time and he was very friendly and helpful. We rent a villa room with plenty of space! The room service was nice only limited choices on the menu. When you walk around the resort, every employee is working to make the best of it. Cleaning the rooms, pool and working in the garden. At the reception, they are also very very helpful. There is a free shuttle bus to the city center and if you leave earlier then 07.00(breakfast time), they will make a breakfast box for you the same morning. This resort is defiantly recommendable!

Like a rural Thai hotels of 20 years ago - but with added Chinese tour groups

tomster100 on 09/04/2017 17:28

Staff: Reception good but F&B staff not a word of English or common sense, painfully bad.
Rooms: Booked a standard room but ended up in one of the "villas" (not a villa) that are built around a small patch of grass at the back of the hotel. Each villa has a kind of conservatory on the back that has room for a small table for two people, they are not private; everybody can see into everybody else’s conservatory. Bed was very hard, aircon was brutal, no escape from it anywhere on the bed.
Pool: Big sign by the pool saying it is heated to 36 degrees Celsius (presumably all year), and the water looked good. However, the cheaper rooms of the hotel all surround it so if you stay there when a tour group or 5 is staying there it will be rammed with Chinese tourists, the hotel seems to focus on this.
F&B: Had a Fawlty Towers experience from Thailand 20 years ago trying to order a ham and cheese sandwich - in the end ordered external food delivery from Meals On Wheels 4U.
Another joy was the outdoor speakers on the grass outside your room piping quite loud traditional dance music day and night, although once located a quick nudge with your foot seem to dislodge something inside and end that issue.
I would stay there again in the cool season (so the aircon was not an issue), in a big group (so you could own a few tables around the pool and create a perimeter from the Chines tourists) if I didn't want to be inside the old city. Other than that, probably best avoided.

Overall best hotel I stayed among 3 hotels in northern Thailand

The highlight of this hotel is the generous room size, even standard ones! The room is also modern and well appointed, with some traditional Lanna touches decorating the room. My room was facing the swimming pool, which is better than the ones facing the parking lot I guess. In room wi-fi speed is also very good.

Breakfast, even though selection isn't great, is quite tasty, and the breakfast area is right by the swimming pool.

Tried eating at the in hotel restaurant and the food was quite tasty, Ordered the Khammon fried rice, Pad Thai and Tom Yum.

If you do not have your own transportation arranged and intend to go to the Old City, it can be a little inconvenient. I paid, if I remember correctly, about 75 Baht for a tuktuk ride from the Old City to the hotel. But the upside is the location of the hotel is a lot more quiet than the Old City area, if that is what you prefer. Besides, there is also a new shopping mall, Promenada, close to the hotel too.

Overall, the best hotel during my 10 day trip in Northern Thailand.

Exceeded expectations

I stayed four nights at Kham Mon and was impressed from start to finish. Airport pick up and check in went smoothly and the room (1202) was lovely. The villas are set in beautiful landscaped gardens and the upstairs room was spacious with high ceilings and a handsome triangular roof. The design and features in the room were quality and modern, with wooden floors, bathtub and traditional lanna touches. I enjoyed being transported around the resort and nearby by buggy:) Breakfast next to an inviting pool offered a good selection of dishes. The only things I might improve are the softness of the pillows, which I found a little uncomfortable, and the frequency of shuttles into town. The staff were warm and friendly, especially when checking out and seeing me off to my next destination. Overall, I thought Kham Mon was excellent value for money in a serene environment away from the city centre. I’m surprised not to see more rave reviews here, and would certainly ‘kham again’ on returning to Chiang Mai!

Nice place but far from city

Jenny S on 04/12/2015 10:50

We stayed here for over a week in October, the room was nice, pool very nice and water is quite clean. But it is quite far from the city, and there are only a few shuttle buses each day to take us into the city and its not very convenient. Its quite expensive to get a tuk tuk back from the city, given how relatively cheap everything else is in Thailand, it is also not easy to find. Also, there never seem to be enough food at the breakfast buffet even when we show up early for breakfast, the breakfast selection is also quite poor.
Its a nice place to stay and chill out in the quiet, if you don't intend to go to town that much.
