One night stay

KIA has one big thing going for it and that's it location- a less than 5 min drive to Kili Airport. It's a pleasant enough place with lovely rock gardens around which the chalet type rooms are located and it has a small pool quite high up with a nice view of Kilimanjaro when the weather is clear. The room we stayed in was well thought out- comfortable with decent beds and a clean bathroom with a hot water shower.
What was abysmal was the check in process. We arrived at 3pm to check in and were met by three not so friendly women at the reception area. After stating our booking name we were told to wait around by our luggage until they got back to us. The same was done to another gentleman who was checking in. After around 10 mins a lady came over and asked if we were planning on staying two night to which I replied we had a flight the next day at 5:30pm and was it possible to get late checkout. She replied that they don't do late check out- check out is at 10am and should we wish to stay longer we needed to book a day room for USD$120. Again nothing was said about our current check in situation. Another 5 mins in we were told that our rooms were not ready yet and we can wait at the bar where we will be given a free drink each. Having come all the way from Ngorongoro we just wanted to settle in and have swim. Since normal checkin is at 2:00pm you would expect the rooms to be ready. Anyway we head to the bar and wait to be told our rooms are ready. Half hour passes and we go to enquirer what is going on since nobody had come to explain if the rooms where ready. We were told that there was a governemnt inspection going on and as soon as it is done we will be shown to our rooms roughly another 1/2 hour more. Again we went to the bar and waited. An hour later the man who was also waited ended up going to reception and rightly demanding to be taken to his room....since he did not give them much choice they had to take him still stating the rooms were not ready! We waited another 1/2 hour and then as we were going to kick up fuss a lady came to say our rooms were ready- this was close to 6pm! We'd been waiting for two hours. We asked to speak with the manager who arrived a while later and we asked if since they took 2 hours of our time if we could have a late checkout given we were certainly not going to pay another $120 for such horrible service. He was no help at all only stating he can give us free diner and extend our stay till 12pm the next day.
The rest of the staff were rather pleasant and helpful. The food is average. On top of the back check in process they tried to double charge us for the room at the end of our trip. We had to spend a long time arguing this point before we left.
Not the best option of stay even with such a close proximity to the airport there are other places close by which would have made a better stay I'm told!
Average accomodation, would stay elsewhere next time

I stayed here for the convenient location close to the airport during a recent trip to Tanzania. The accomodation was of an acceptable standard, basic but clean and relatively comfortable. The food in the restaurant was edible but nothing special. Each of the rooms were a short walk from the reception and restaurant. After dark I was accompanied back to my room by a guard with a gun - I did not ask the reason for the gun, nor do I think I wanted to know!
On a return visit to Tanzania my travel agent booked me in to Kia Lodge again pre & post safari. I arrived on a 3am flight to be picked up by my transfer who announced he was taking me to a different hotel because Kia Lodge was "full". Without any communication from Kia Lodge they had booked me to a different airport hotel. While I was happy with how they had handled the change in accommodation -they booked me to a different (and better) hotel nearby, at no cost to me; the lack of communication was quite frustrating, especially when you are a solo female traveller arriving in the middle of the night. I asked the driver to take me to Kia Lodge to talk to someone directly who told me they had no guests staying because of "water issues" - interestingly an issue noted by other users of trip advisor.
I made attempts to contact Kia Lodge to confirm my second night's stay on the way home from my safari. It was virtually impossible to contact this lodge - there was no answer to 2 x phone numbers I had, nor any direct email, nor any response to an email I sent to their generic email address. For this reason I would not stay at Kia Lodge again, nor would I recommend them. There are better hotel options close to the airport.
Close to airport - good option to start your safari

After an intercontinental flight the Kia Lodge a good option as very close to airport , a 10 minute drive away.
Rooms basic but ok for just one night, no air condtioner in rooms , just fans.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Stunning way to end an adventure in Tanzania

Room looked out to Kilimanjaro, as did the small swimming pool. Staff were excellent - welcoming and friendly. Food was tasty and well prepared. An easy, trouble free transfer to the airport at 4:00am capped off my amazing time in Tanzania.
Unique 'airport hotel' Friendly, but pricey

Stayed one night at the begining of our trip. Efficient pick up from the airport and less than 10 mins to the property. Even for Africa $200 is a bit steep for this level of accommodation. Nevertheless, no other complaints. Clean, comfortable and very friendly
