When you need a toilet plunger right away!!
cELlery2015 on 09/10/2017 17:31
The plunger stayed in our room (but a slight discount was provided). The owner's son never took less than minute to come out of his "back room", and other guests joked about the alleged pot scent that followed him - and that the continental breakfast was a choice of two dry cereals.
No information about local resources, including what turned out to be a good breakfast cafe across the street! This place was HALF the price of better places in Cortez; you don't get what you don't pay for.
Reasonable room and reasonable price

Frankly, we were desperate after having reserved online at a place down the street called "National 9" or "Sand Canyon" and some other names online. When we arrived at that place, we discovered it was an incredible dump and had to find alternative accommodations. Cortez is a small town without a lot of choices, and vacancies were hard to find. Fortunately, we arrived early enough in the day to find the Cozy Inn,
Cozy Inn is a modest, but clean with accommodating management. They were happy to provide everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The rooms were decently sized, and we enjoyed the pool, as well, with an indoor area adjacent to escape the weather if need be. Very affordable.

Truly its name, Cozy Inn provided us with a cozy little room. If you're claustrophobic, don't choose a cottage room, rather go upstairs, where the rooms are possibly bigger. For us, this small room suited well, since we didn't want to invite guests to a dancing party. It was equipped with all the necessity and unnecessity (TV) things, fridge, coffee maker, microwave, etc. In the bathroom, I felt myself in the late fifties, or sixties, but everything worked perfectly well. There was an addition that I especially loved. In a box, there were rugs, provided to clean up some accidental mess. It is always a problem in hotels. You don't want to use the white towel, but there is absolutely nothing else. A few days ago from out of desperation, I gave my partner a dirty underwear to clean the windscreen of the car. These rugs were a caring touch of a woman. I wish that the other hotels would follow her examples.
The wi-fi was passable; the breakfast was basic but satisfactory. In the breakfast room, an elderly lady supervised the food, and I guess, that she was probably related to the gentleman who was at the front desk when we arrived. I think my imagination doesn't carry me too far away when I suppose, that the cleaning rug was her idea. Congratulation!
If we would go to Cortez again, we would use this accommodation since we were satisfied with it.
Old motel trying hard

My guess is that this motel was built in the 1950's but they have tried very hard to keep up with the times. We stayed is one of the original "cottage" rooms because we wanted ground floor and there is a much newer building at the back where I suspect the plumbing and tiles are much more modern. Actually we found this to be clean and comfortable and the elderly couple in charge at breakfast time are almost certainly the owners. Breakfast is limited tp cereal and coffee or tea. The motel is on US 491 South which I recommend for anyone to take heading back towards California versus 160 because once you get to Shiprock, 491 is like an Interstate highway nearly all the way to Gallup where it joins I-40 versus 160 which is mostly 2-lane through mountains with trucks.
Mesa Verde Park is about ten miles north from this motel. There are many restaurants in town only minutes away/
Family-owned Budget 420/Pet Friendly Accommodations

I had intended to just keep driving through this town until I passed a recreational dispensary and decided to try this cannabis tourism i've heard so much about. The Doobie sisters sent me here to the Cozy Inn. The owner was very nice and accommodating, as was her literal family of employees. Pet fee is only five dollars which is very welcome. The owner's signature, stamp, or name dropping the motel seems to give you 10% discount places. Showing my room card at Jack and Janelle's gave me that discount.
In short, A nice place to rest your head for the night and trying to wrap your head around smoking a legal joint in your bed while your dog sleeps comfortably
