Waterpark with Great inflatable slide, but not much else

Henk C on 28/10/2017 20:25

Had a day pass for the waterpark. It doesn’t have much, even with the additional slide in construction the waterpark still won’t have much, except for the large inflatable slide at the front. This part opens in the afternoon (14:00 or 15:00 pm) and is a lot of fun for kids and adults.

Did not sleep in the resort, but looks like the facilities are new. Expansion work is still being done. The resort has a buffer restaurant and is basically in the middle of nowhere. If you stay her, I would recommand having a renter car.

Great base to explore island in new resort. Ideal for family too. Great food

Yes there is no beach and it's in the middle of nowhere but it is in the middle of all the great places in Curacao. You are literally 15 min from airport. 15 min from Willamstad, 13 min from Port Mari Beach and Daibooi, 15 min from Cas Abou Beach and only 22 min from Kinip Beach and Boca NP.

Now the catch. You must rent a car. The dilemma i had was whether or not get from airport directly upon arrival or get it at resort. Air Canada Vac did offer free transfers. The biggest issue is if you are a family then you will have a difficult time getting all your luggage in those small Kias they offer. Note if you rent from the airport it's very reasonable but if you get anything bigger than "compact" which would be like a toyota corolla or Nissan Vesta then it's 2 -3 times the price as the small economy car. As i had 2 big bags and one full of snorkeling stuff. it would be impossible to put 4 people and luggage in those smaller cars. Ace rental had cars for about $230 Cdn. So my final decision was to pay more for the convenience of ACV transfering back and forth to airport and using D & D car rental. It's costlier but great service and cheaper than hotel. for about 40US a day you get full insurance car (Got larger Nissan) with full insurance. Daniel drops it off to you at hotel then picks it back up. So simple. He threw in a local phone and a gps too.

If you don't have a car the resort may not be for you. You have the option of taking those school bus shuttles to town or 3 beaches but no flexibilty in times to come back.

The rooms were great. Got a 1 bdrm which was equipped with 2 king beds and huge balcony. Towel & Sheet changed daily and beach towels can be exchanged daily too at receiption. Free safety box too. Great A/C - quiet and cool. They don't charge for excess use so don't worry.

Pools were greats but bit noisy on weekends or holidays as locals can get day pass and often have bday parties there. So if you want quietness you may not have it. Stick to main pool without waterslide. This didn't matter too much to us as we were rarely at the resort during the day. Always out and about and coming back about 3-4pm to chill and enjoys some snacks and drinks before dinner.

The food is great. To me it's very gourmet ish or tries to be. The dutch head chef tries to make fancier food with lots of sauces or stew with the same ingredients day after day. Yes variety is not like those in Mexico/DR etc. but quality is there and refreshing change as it seems more refine (things made with wine/cream sauce) etc...

Breakfast was normal stuff few cold cuts, great thick bread, and crunchy croissants, fancy made to order preformed omelettes, bacon, pancakes, sausages etc.... Yes it seems like you always get pineapple and watermelon but there are bannanas/oranges/apples too. Coffee is good and strong.

Lunch we never ate there but prob similar to dinner.
We did take advantage of snack time from 10-12 and 2-5pm. Really good stuff that you can make a meal out of. Always great fries, Depending on day you will have calamare, meat balls, pita cheese, bitten balls (croquette), hamburgers, ham cheese, tuna sandwiches etc......All made to order and fresh. Beer is Polar which is very good. Carib brand is not too good. We had almost all inclusive so couldn't get all prem stuff. Wine was not very drinkable. Tried all 3. did mix white with some juices to make it palateable.

Dinners were very good. Always a grilled item like pork/creamsauce, tuna, flank steak, satay chicken etc... The beef stews are really good and tender. Chicken in sauces are never dried out, winer snitzel, carmelized braise pork, etc... Side would be cauliflour, brussel sprouts, peas, carrots, roasted potatos, rice and some good pastas (smokey bacon macaroni, penne pasta, etc...) Desserts are fancy. Great panecottas and not too sweet cakes with mango/banana etc... choch cake was good too . Tiramisu was fair. Ice creams are very good, rich and very flavorful like pistachio, mango, lemon ice, hazelnut. Very diff from other resorts i've been to.

you can get as many bottled water from any bar or restaurant. So just ask. Coffee at bars are nice and strong and free smoothie of the days are great (mango/pina colada etc)

Fun for kids.... waterslides/bouncy wet slides/foam party.... what more can you ask for
More slides coming on other new side of resort. Construction didn't bother us much.

daily excursions we did was

Porto Mari beach 2 times - Daughter got Padi Open water there $400US. Full service beach with restaurant too. Ok snorkelling to left.

Playa Lagun - ok snorkeling - free

Boca NP - 10f per person. Visited Tabla, Natural bridge and Pistol

Willamstad - nice place but hot. Hit Plasa Bieu for lunch 17.5 f for plate and good smoothies outside at stand.

Grote Kinip beach - beautiful water and sand but it was local holiday so packed. Chairs bit pricey but worth it. Snorkelling ok on left side. Buy local snacks at top - lumpa pies then take a jump from the cliff.

Pesokoti Beach - best time snorkelling with turtles (guarentee to see) and we snorkelled with a wall of millions of anchovies too

Cas Abou - nice beach - full servcie - great food esp burgers there at snack. Cheap good and flavourful (much better than Porto Mari food). Snorkelling on left - saw eel/squid/scorpian fish/puffer fish/spotted box/trumpet/octopus etc......

Overall great trip and much less than i anticipated. Best of both worlds - all inclusive
and indept travel with lots of beaches.

Change money to local currency. There's a bank just outside airport to the left as you exit (1min). ANG to USD cash = 1.78 Cdn cash was 1.40 (or .7). It's cheaper to rent/buy stuff with local currency.

Excellent Resort if you don't want a beach or night life

mjmiskelly on 23/09/2017 11:37

For us this was a very last minute due to Hurricane Irma...read the review and it seem good. We arrived and it was great. We read no top blanket only a sheet so I thru in a couple throw blankets and it was perfect. Pillows weren't the best but just go to the front desk and ask they had more delivered to our room. Take a face cloth also unless you like using the corner of your towel!!! We took the all inclusive and it was well worth the extra money. I hope to visit this resort again very soon.

Good deal for price

We stayed here July 6 to July 13, 2017. I had looked at the other reviews on TripAdvisor and they turned out to be correct. You get what you pay for (very clean, comfortable and not too bad a location - with a car you can easily get to beaches, groceries, gas,etc.). We paid 1100 $ canadian for this almost-all-inclusive. It was worth every penny considering the price of other hotels and the cost of restaurants on the island. I could not have afforded to visit Curaçao if it had not been for this hotel/price.
What you need to know:
There is construction on the site, but it is not bothersome. Our room was in the building closest to the site and we were not bothered by it.
As a couple in our forties, we enjoyed renting a car for a few days and visiting the island ourselves and choosing our beach for the day... Renting a car with a company near the airport was REALLY inexpensive.
There are free shuttles offered from the hotel to a few beaches. Wow You have to pay at the beach for food and drinks and the prices are fair. The shuttle itself is battered, but does the job.
Beaches have rocks - watershoes/water sandals are a good idea to bring.
My husband loved the diving as you just swim from the shore - no boat needed! Snorkeling was also great from the shore!
The public transport is a bit confusing as there are not many signs, but a kind gentleman helped us find our bus - a few dollars from Willemstad to the airport!
It is almost guaranteed you will have sunshine on your vacation here as it hardly ever rains- cactus there to prove it! You won't get the luxurious vegetation from Riviera Maya, Mexico.
My dream is to visit all the islands in the Caribbean! This is a very hot island (temperature-wise). I checked this one off my list... :)

Beautful beaches but not up to speed with Canadians

beachbum1414 on 01/06/2017 13:24

Just returned from this resort was there for a week from Canada. The hotel itself is beautiful and very clean. The rooms were very nice with a separate bedroom and living room. The showers/bathroom were nice although sometimes there was little water pressure. Very nice big balcony were a pleasure to relax on in the evening. The biggest issue with this resort is that it caters to the British as that is where the owners are from. Although they say they want to encourage Canadians they really do not seem that interested in catering to Canadians. This is NOT a real all inclusive and although I did pay for the all inclusive they tell you that you are only allowed to use so much power in your room therefore made us very concerned about getting an extra charge for using the AC too much, they basically say if you don't use more than 10 hours of AC you will be fine. This is not a worry that you need on a vacation and therefore we only put the AC on at night and not as cool as we would have liked. Definitely a stressor!!! As well you are only allowed to change your beach towel twice in a week???? Really that's pretty gross especially when you go to the beach and it gets all sandy. Maid service is not a full clean every day therefore I had to go and complain that there was sand in our shower and the maid didn't clean it, along with the balcony! Some people got a condo although they didn't request it and got very little maid service. The pools were pretty dirty. I did see them clean it in the morning but due to the high winds they should have come around more often to clean the pools its really gross when you see hair floating in the pool. They allow locals and birthday parties into the resort. So you are trying to have a relaxing trip and a group of 15 kids or locals come in and cause havoc, not so relaxing. Maybe if they want to do this have a separate area for them that does not bother the resort guests??? it was a HUGE disruption!!!! This resort is NOT on the beach which is fine but their shuttles to the beach first off do not go to the beaches listed every day they choose only 2 out of 3 so if you really like 1 particular beach they do not go there everyday. As well the timing of the shuttles is NOT good there should be more options. The beaches are to die for BUT there is NO shuttle that goes to the West side beaches which are suppose to be the best to see so we didn't get to see this as there was no shuttle and our tour got cancelled. This is a resort that you want to rent a car for a few days and go through the island and beaches on your own, this is the best bet. FOOD - well definitely not catered to the tastes of Canadians, very plain and bland and it is NOT like other all inclusives that you have a huge variety of food choices you have very few BUT what they do offer is fresh and other than the pasta very good. There is NOT a pasta bar where you can chose your pasta and sauce this has never been the case on any vacation I have been on and I really missed it. I would encourage you to get the ALL Inclusive as you get 3 a la cartes which is Pizza for dinner ONLY 1 night no other pizza offered on resort but I love pizza and the pizza was tasteless, a BBQ which you cook your own meat over a BBQ which was amazing and then the actual a la carte which I got beef which was soo fresh and unbelievably great and I don't ever eat meat while I'm away. So the extra cost for the all inclusive is worth it! Also you get ice cream during the day which the almost all inclusive doesn't pretty silly if you ask me. The service of some workers was soo ignorant!!!!! Some were wonderful!! The workers work all over bar, waitress etc so they are NOT experienced with making drinks. They should be training indivduals to actually make the drinks, if it is not on their list they don't know how to make it so they say "sorry not on the list", something very simple. Some of the workers would go out of their way to look up a drink and make it for you but others were so rude and really ruined a day for many of the families. Also this particular individual stated "we don't fill up your own bottles", ok so tell me why would this be when actually 2 of their cups only fills 1.5 of my cup so they are actually making more by doing their own cups??? Where is the rational with this, it makes NO sense at all and your just upsetting the guests and getting into a power struggle for NO reason. The reception staff at the start were nice and when you left and in between at times they were rude and actually yelled at 2 guests expecting them to read a sign that was NOT In english, this wasn't necessary! So there is definately some issues in this hotel that need to be fixed! The reception said when we were leaving please do a review so that more Canadians will come but really I get the feeling that its really not the type of people that they want to cater to. Internet wifi was free and worked great! Unfortunately the weather wasn't so great and that upset me because they say Curacao doesn't rain at this time but that is not the resorts fault! The Air Canada rep was HORRIBLE, RUDE and IGNORANT! Be careful with the tours that you book with them, our tour was cancelled and no one told us and we waited outside of reception for 40 min and then went into reception they said oh they cancelled left a message except reception wrote down the name wrong and didn't make ANY effort to find out what guest it was and it would have been easy to figure out as it was just the first initial of the last name that was wrong! Another family that booked a tour through AC was delayed because there bus needed repair, this is not how guests want to spend their vacation waiting around sweating in the heat! The shuttle into the city again the timing is horrible! Your stuck there for hours so we just took the public transit back but there should be more options in the shuttle times, yes this would mean having 2 buses but would be more accommodating to the guests. There is not many kids here so I would be cautious in who you bring. There is no kids club and there isn't a whole lot for them to do other than the slides and the pool. It would be fine for babies but not older or teenagers. There is no night entertainment other than a single man band near the buffet for a little while. This is NOT a party place or if your looking for night life don't go here. If you want relax which I did it was fantastic and quiet! There is no day entertainment either ok fine if your not into this BUT also NO music at the pools, this really sucked and I really would have loved some music. The one bar had a radio but you couldn't hear it across the pool. So taking all these cons into place if none of it matters to you it is a beautiful island with beautiful beaches and the hotel is very clean and very beautiful and the rooms are great I would recommend it but I would encourage you to rent a car and do the beaches/city on your own. Although the food was not plentiful it is fresh and very good and I am pretty picky! But if the hotel is reading this if you really want Canadians you really need to start looking at what your including with the almost/inclusiveness, fixing the towel and AC situation, adding more food that canadians expect like PIZZA during snack and pasta bars and encouraging your staff to be nicer to the guests!!!!!!
