Don't stay at this place if you value your sleep

We should have read reviews before booking this place. We were under the impression that we were booking the hotel. What you are booking is a room in an apartment. There is no front desk or anyone to great you upon arrival or anyone to complain if something is wrong. There was no soap in the bathroom and just two old towels for a three night stay. But that is not the worst of it. Building is in a seedy part of town with a lot of loiterers around, which made us feel unsafe. But the worst is that all through the night there were screaming and laughing and shouting right under our windows. It was impossible to fall asleep. After a busy day walking around and exploring, a good night sleep is essential. Don't expect to get it here. We checked out as soon as the sun was up and checked into a lovely Hotel Genoa just a few miles away right in the historic center. I wouldn't stay in this place even if it was free.

This B&B is clean and spacious. As La Spezia is not too big a city, we were not that far from the centre. The girl who welcomed us was very kind and helpful. However, it should be more specified that the free parking lot is not very close to the hotel. Also, the website should specify that if you check-in after the allowed time, you have to pay extra 20€ fees. But in general, it was a good experience.

Upon arrival at Casa di Gabriella, no host was present to open the door for us and we did not receive a notice before our arrival to let us know there would not be anyone here. One of the guests came to the door after a while and let us in. Afterwards, we had to figure out a way to call someone in charge (who got here 20 minutes later) so we could finally check in. Location was good, room was clean. Without a doubt would never stay at (or suggest) Casa di Gabriella again, not organized at all.

Had a lovely week in La Spezia visiting Cinque Terre and Milan from the base. The hosts are lovely, the room was really clean and bright, gorgeous balcony and views of the mountains. The square below is beautiful, bit noisy but it can't be heard inside the room. The only negatives was the small temperamental shower but you get the hang of it after a few days 😁.

I stayed here 2 nights.The room with the private bathroom is in an old building.During the night there were noise from the street as it's a piazza around and Italian people and homeless gather there and stay until late in the night.
There is no reception so don't expect to ask somebody for info anytime you want.Italians have rooms for lent ( casa or albergo ) in different "usual blocks of flats " in town.For example La Casa di Gabriella has 3 rooms at the 5 floor of that building.Look exactely at the address as there isn't any big sign advertising this accommodation.If you arrive before the hour of check in and want to just leave your luggage inside and go into town, then you should phone the owners and they will send you in around 20 minutes a coordinator who will come and help you. Our coordinator , Nicola , was a kind helpful man.
Breakfast was poor.He gave us some vouchers and had to go to a cafeteria ( at about 10 minutes walk ) to get a croissant/focacia, a cup of coffee ( I advise you take a cappucino as it's tasty ) and a glass of juice.
All in all, it was a pleasant stay.The room was clean, big and also the bathroom.
La Spezia is a beautiful mediteranneean looking town.Would like to come back one day!
