Our subjective view is that staying in this hotel can let down your holiday. Reception was amateurish. Corridors were dormitory like. Leisure areas unusable/smelt. Room ok. Setting was good but what a shame not matched in any way by hotel service and interior quality. One where we were glad to move on knowing we would never be back.

The base is present but lack of maintenance. The room is ok except that my friends asked for 2 separate beds but they were side by side like a double bed without any room to separate them! The pool is not heated, the jacuzzi is out of use and the fitness centre is poor. The personnel however is polite and very helpful.

The location is lovely being both central to the amenities, the old port and river. The rooms are spacious, very clean and well arranged with some English speaking TV channels but otherwise, for the cost, a little plain. Michael is the most charming and helpful principle receptionist and all those in the restaurant equally so making dining a pleasure. Food is good but not exceptional and wine expensive. Breakfast is pleasant but otherwise very average. Rooms that overlook the Corderie gardens offer a lovely view but can, on occasions suffer terrible disruption from rowdy yobs from the night to the early hours.

I came out of my one night stay at the hotel of the la Corderie Royale in Rochefort with mixed feelings. There are some aspects which are truly those of the four star hotel it claims to be. This includes a very nice historic building, beautiful grounds and a classy restaurant (that we only used for a (very good) breakfast). Moreover, it is located in the historic center of the city on the banks of the river Charente near the main attractions. However, there are some other aspects which are not really up to par. The lobby could be more welcoming, our standard room was quiet and reasonably comfortable but did not have the feeling of luxury that you expect in a four star hotel. Some features such the counter top of the bathroom or the painting of the walls were screaming cheap. The hallways were dark with light controlled by a timer set for only for a very short time. More troubling, cleaning was not really satisfactory, our room was OK but some of the tables in the hallways had such a layer of dust that you could write on it with your fingers.
I understand that it might be difficult for a city like Rochefort to sustain a real four star hotel and in all fairness the prices are not really those of a four star hotel. However, some basics for hotel in every category such as cleanness were not really fully satisfactory. It should be relatively easy to fix but, in view of the other comments on TripAdvisor, this seems to be a recurring problems.

the room was very pleasant and the staff were very helpful and nothing was to much trouble the last few metres were confusing and made the search for the hotel a little difficult to find but in the end we sorted ourselves out and finally found it
