Stayed just the one night predominantly due to the hotel's proximity to the Bombay Sapphire distillery which we visited beforehand. Check in was a breeze, just our name taken and then off to the room. We had a plush bedroom, which had a sitting area and was very well appointed. The only minor complaint was the absence of any turn down service, which whilst not essential, you would expect for a hotel of this standard and price. We had a dinner reservation at 7.30 and made our way to the bar at 7.00. Swiftly served drinks, we were given menus and our order taken 20 minutes later. We ordered a second drink and upon finishing those and being asked if we wanted a third, we suggested it might be nice if we were sat in the dining room - as 3 or 4 other couples had been ahead of us!! No big deal, but again we shouldn't really have had to ask. Dinner itself was excellent, particularly the Scallop starter and Raspberry desert. Service was good, notably so from the young french maitre'd. Top marks for him. A quiet night's sleep followed by a very nice relaxing breakfast, completed an enjoyable stay.

Last night (Sunday 12th Nov 2017) I attended a wedding reception. I took £50 in cash .....the old ten pound notes which are still legal tender until 2018...i ordered a drink at the bar (which may I add was tended by one person even tho the reception was very busy) I handed over my £10 note and was abruptly told they cannot accept? When I questioned this I was told by the lad that he had been instructed by the bank not to accept them even though I informed him tgey were still legal tender....i had to drink glasses of tap water during the evening as I didn't take my bank card. This is appealing service. I suggest you go for a meal there and at the end pay in cash with the LEGAL TENDER OF OLDER NOTES and see what their reaction is ...they over charge for drinks anyway. £17.50 my friend paid for two drinks so obviously they can afford to turn away custom !!!!

We had a dinner party in the Mountbatten room. The food was very good and the service was top drawer. The rooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. There was, however, confusion when we paid our bill and it took 45 minutes standing in reception to sort it out.

We were looking for a short weekend getaway from London to celebrate an anniversary and were absolutely delighted with our choice. The hotel and grounds are simply stunning and well worth a walk around to see the falconry area, the vegetable gardens, the bee-keeping area etc... We were fortunate to have good weather despite it being the end of September and the views of the grounds were incredibly picturesque. The room was very warm and cosy, with all the modern conveniences and the bed was incredibly comfortable, making for a great night's sleep. To a person, all the staff were exceptionally polite and helpful throughout our brief stay - clearly customer service is a massive part of the culture here. The evening meal was delightful fine-dining, again with an emphasis on presentation and customer experience. Breakfast the following morning was equally good. Would definitely return again and would certainly recommend this hotel to others for special occasions.

We stayed at Lainston House in late October for a couple of nights, this being our second stay this year. We were lucky enough to be allocated Sycamore once again; this is the room I described in the review of our first visit in March, and we would happily recommend it to any future guests.
I have awarded 5 stars to the hotel, because the quality of the accommodation and the food offered at breakfast and dinner was, in my view, deserving of this rating. We didn't suffer any of the delays in food service which have featured in other recent reviews. However, there were one or two staffing issues which I had the opportunity to discuss in a meeting with James Webb, Operations Manager. James explained that these issues were being actively addressed, and I was satisfied with his explanation; his comments following slightly more recent reviews than mine seem to confirm that a full team is now in place. We certainly aim to visit Lainston House again in 2018
