Very disappointing

My husband and I traveled to Northern New Brunswick for a family funeral. When my husband called to make a reservation at Lakeview Inn he explained why we were coming and explained that he needed quiet as he has difficulty sleeping. They said they would put us in a quiet section. When we arrived and checked in we found the housekeeping staff had left cleaning rags in the bathtub and a water bottle on the bathroom counter. The fan on the heating / cooling system was not functioning properly, there were loud banging noises late in the night and contractors were hammering on the wall in the room next to us at 7:45 a.m. We had breakfast at the hotel and discovered that the yogurt had expired. We had originally booked in for 2 nights but checked out after staying only 1. On a positive note, the bed was very comfortable.
Comfortable rooms. Renovation ongoing.

This Inn in Bathurst NB is currently getting renovated. It looks like it will be branded as a Quality Inn in the near future. Everything in the motel, from reception area, to breakfast area and rooms get renovated and refurbished. This is currently ongoing. Nevertheless, the already refurbished rooms offer a quiet and comfortable stay. The breakfast during renovation was somewhat simple but at a satisfactory level.
Nice Suites, Friendly Service

Although the building was undergoing renovations at the time of our stay, the reception was very friendly and efficient and the suite I was given was very nice. It opened to a sitting room with fridge, microwave and large flat screen TV, sofa and table and chairs. The bathroom was newly renovated and featured a walk in shower with a very large shower head. The bedroom had a large, comfortable bed, desk and chair and another large flat screen TV. The Wi-Fi connection was strong and reasonably fast. It is located on a busy street and it was difficult getting in and out during peak traffic times.
Weekend getaway

We used this hotel as a base from which to explore Kouchibougauc Park and Mount Carleton as well as travel to Miscou Island.
The hotel is undergoing major renovations as it converts to a Quality Inn.
Booking by phone was easy and a pleasure.
Check in was a little awkward due to the construction, but was handled well.
The room we were in was newly decorated and comfortable. There was no "LakeView", rash a housing complex.
The breakfast provided was fair at best. It was a "nuke it yourself" format with eggs and sausages for microwave cooking. Not sure if that was due to the construction or an effort to reduce food waste.
We thought, given the construction disruption, that this was overpriced. Would probably try elsewhere for comparison if we are back in the area.
Renovated room!

Our room was freshly renovated and very clean and comfortable. We had a good night sleep and there was a flatscreen TV and a very comfortable chair to sit in. Bathroom had all fresh fixtures and new tile floor. Staff were all very friendly and welcoming. There was nothing to complain about with the room given the recent renovations and we were quite pleased since we paid $99 per night for our 2 night stay booked through Expedia. This is why we are giving the property a 4.
However, travellers should know the hotel is going through a massive Renovation and will be rebranding to a Quality Inn property in future - floors 2 and 3 are renovated according to staff and the first floor is clearly undergoing renovations now. This includes the lobby area and the breakfast area. The breakfast area was definitely adequate and we had a decent breakfast there each day, but if I was ranking the first floor alone (which we spent little time on) the hotel would not be a 4.
Also, travellers should know there is a $100 hold on your credit card for possible damages and is not cleared until housekeeping checks your room the next day after you leave. I understand there may be a business reason for this given the hotel's past experience, but can't say I'm a fan of this practice.
However, we had a great stay and we would return!
