Quirky Hostel

My friend and I stayed at the Generator for 3 nights at the end of our trip. The hostel is located only a short walk from Russel Square Station which takes you to the main sites of London. There are lots of cafes and restaurants nearby too. We had some issues with our room not being cleaned upon our arrival and the lift was also not working which was a bit of an inconvenience. The room was small but adequate. The staff at the hostel are friendly and helpful and overall it is reasonably priced.
visit with 60 students

We visited London with 60 students and stayed in the Generator hostel. We couldn't have been welcomed in a warmer and friendly manner, it was fantastic. Staff waited outside for our coach to pull up and helped us get all students into the building an a orderly manner. We were given all the room keys and to rooms were very clean and well maintained. Toilets and showers were spotless (fantastic cleaning team, hats off to them). The bar and coffee relaxation area again were really nice and we could see other guests having a nice time interacting. Breakfast the next day was good and there were two price options (cold or warm food). Overall the staff were amazing ( we got a long delay on our return journey and we were welcomed back into the hostel to keep our students safe as a group). overall very good and would certainly go back there.
Ok but not the best at all

It wasn't too hard finding the hostel with Google maps. I would suggest that a more legible sign is placed outside the alley way and in to help people notice that the hostel is further inside. Upon entering the hostel I was greeted well by the receptionist and all was fine. What I was disappointed with was that we left a note whilst booking for three of us to be placed in the same room and this was not done and the receptionist had to play around with the rooms to place us together which wasn't fair. Further to that the room was clean but I don't understand why the sheets were not cleaned or washed everyday and most days they were found as left when I woke up which is quite unhygenic. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy. I would suggest that plugs are added closer to each bed rather than just at the end of the room. Also I was quite surprised that one couldn't rent a towel. I think this doesn't make sense at all since people usually just want to rent rather than buy one due to not having space. I understand that the hotel expect people to leave them there which is better for them to resell. That is the impression I get. The price to keep a luggage at the hostel on the last day is extremely expensive when nowadays usually hostels keep them aside in a room for free! I also think that a light should be placed over each bed since people have to switch on the light during the middle of the night which can easily wake up people. Finally, I must say that the place is nice and the bar and food at the bar is good and quite lively.
Clean and nice stay

We were staying most of our trip in London with staying at Generator hostel. We like it’s location since near to tube station, king’s cross station and euston station. And it’s location were quite at night so we have a comfort stay there.
The hotel itself quite clean and modern. The facility works well, toilets and showers were clean. The room was not that large but ok for us. And we have a good rest. Since most of the day we explore london and going back to hotel only to take a rest. Well spend. Recommended.
Great location, small living space

Tiny rooms with cryptic light switches (you can turn lights off, just not easily). Well cleaned, not too well maintained. Food way, way overpriced. Beer selection embarrassing (guinness/stella/hop house/bud light). Showers excellent in terms of water flow, but with barely any place to put clothes while showering. No quiet place if you need to work. Prompt service, vigilant security. Snoring roommates can be dealt with using earplugs (sold at reception). Party-going roommates take away from the quality of sleep when they turn on the lights in the middle of the night and it shines right in your face if you are on the top bunk. (Dealt with this directly, but pretty sure would receive help from front desk if needed.) Location is excellent - walking distance to anywhere interesting.
