This chic hotel provides about everything you could ask for! We even had a chance to meet The owner and he is super nice and very knowledgeable about the area! They have fantastic servers and chef andres is the best!! Food is delicious! Melissa is also very knowledgeable about the area and what's good and what's not!! She speaks very well English , also gets with andres too! ( I apologize, but it was very nice to talk to them since I know very very little spanish😳) I would recommend to anyone! Best in the area hands down! I would definitely stay here again!
Not the best of starts...but ended up liking this place

So when we arrived at Le Cameleon our first impressions were less than great.
Noone helped us with our luggage and when someone finally turned up at the front desk, it was hardly the warmest of welcomes. We were however given a welcome drink and shown to our room.
When we walked into the room the smell of damp hit us, however there was no damp marks anywhere and yes the rooms are in need of a bit of TLC, i.e. peeling paint and scuff marks on the floor, however I suppose in a completely white hotel this is to be expected. However it was clean and comfortable
We had a ground floor room and the balcony felt really gloomy, but as my husband pointed out, it was effectively in a forest so I soon stopped complaining.
My first impression was that is was trying a little bit too hard, almost wanting to be the Delano in Miami but on a travelodge budget. However over the next 4 days my opinion of this place completely changed.
So breakfast, was pretty basic but had everything you needed, there was fresh fruit and Juice. Also bread, cheese and salad and then you could choose off of a menu for your main event. The breakfasts are predominantly aimed at the american market, which makes sense as most guests when we were staying were american. We went for eggs most days which were fine.
We also ate at the hotel restaurant on one occasion, which was a little bit disastrous as they had run out of Rum, the beer fridge had also broken and there was no vegetarian option. However they did rectify the beer situation by putting it on ice and the chef made us some delicious vegetarian pasta so it worked out in the end.
Most days we ate lunch at the beach bar Noa and this was great, lovely choice of food and really friendly staff as well as a great view. However the music is quite loud if you are anywhere near the speakers!!
The pool area at the hotel itself is really nice, and never seemed that busy - we used this most days.
However the absolutely best thing about this hotel is the wildlife and it really changed the whole way I felt about this place.
Most mornings I would be up before 6am, taking photos of the beautiful birds, lizards and Agoutis around the grounds.
So when the gardener came across a sloth very low down in a tree, he came to get me so I could see it, which was so lovely.
The hotel itself is a 5 minute walk from the local supermarket for water etc and very near the Jaguar rescue centre, which is a must for wildlife lovers.
So after not the best of starts, I realised I actually quite liked this place and felt really relaxed after my stay here.
Special place

Our US travel agent, Adventures Within Reach, booked this hotel for us and we really enjoyed it!!! It is set in the rain forest which was left intact for the hotel. The room and buildings are completely surrounded by forest. And yet it's right on the main highway and right across from the beach.
I was very nervous about safety in Puerto Viejo but felt very secure here.
Besides the natural environment surrounding the hotel, the room and interior decorations are exceptional. The staff is excellent.
The breakfast and lunch are very family friendly but dinner offers no kids menu and that was a big let down.
Wi fi, air con, lots of hot water, nice pool, good beds, safe, lots of chairs at beach and pool.
We went April 11,12 and 13. This was Easter break for Costa Rican's. Traffic was horrendous and usually at a standstill.
But there was no road noise in the hotel.
Great place

Excellent service. Great food. Chef's specials are unbelievable. A must visit place for your vacations in Costa Rica.
You will feel nature around you, possible to see lots of animals.
Great place to select when visiting Caribbean area in Costa Rica.
Wonderful start to a wonderful holiday

We started our Costa Rica trip here and what a beautiful place to start. There were 7 of us in 4 beautiful bedrooms. The rooms were modern, spacious and well-equipped.
The beach bar is beuatifully placed looking over the blue waters of the Caribbean and the restaurant served excellent meals.
My one slight criticism is that I have to drink decaf coffee and they ran out after 2 days!
The excellent Jaguar Rescue Centre is only a few minutes walk away. A brilliant place to se sloths, monkeys etc.
